The Expanse at its best.

Turns out that the Expanse is even better in short story form. Character development, small scale stories and world building again and again. We get plenty of development for side characters, epilogues and prologues for them, and the main series is improved by reading this.

The Butcher of Andersson Station was just a name before, as was Auberon, and Eric was just a nobody. Cara and Xan came out of the left field, and Epstein was just yet another name. Now, they are all people, as important as Holden, Avasarala, Bobby, Marco or Winston Duarte.

So glad this is finally available

An audible token holds such value and I never felt the value in spending it on each individual short story so I’m so very thankful to have been able to fill in the gaps I’ve been sorely missing out on and I’m pleased to say I have no regrets. Each story, and the author notes too, we’re thoroughly enjoyable :)

scratches more itches than I knew I had

this collection of short stories really fleshes out the world of the expanse. I would recommend and reading it between books 8 and 9.

Great supporting stories

I was annoyed that I had bought some of these separately before the compilation was released but I really enjoyed them. I tried to read each one at the point where it fitted with the main novels’ timeframe.

I was a bit frustrated by the end of the final story - I wanted more and needed some answers! However, having loathed the end of the last Expanse novel, reading this last story afterwards made me feel a bit better about the ending of the series overall.

Highly recommended.

A good supplement

This set of stories provide a very good supplement to the main book series. Some of stories fill in gaps, others take a strand of the stories forward. While there are some passages that seem strung out, they are generally thought-provoking and inventive. The stories are performed well, although the voicing of some of the characters is occasionally slightly clichéd. All in all, a worthwhile listen.

Bittersweet Coda to the Expanse

The final book of the Expanse, this anthology of eight stories throughout, before and after the series is an excellent, sometimes poignant, aftershock. Author's notes after each story gives a rare insight into the creative process of James S. A. Corey, and as always Jefferson Mays IS the voice of the Expanse.
