A gem.
On a training course I was recently advised to start teaching my students 'memory skills' and I bought this audio book to help with that. Within ten minutes I was amazing the family with a list of twelve random objects reciting it forwards and backwards. Bright and easy to listen to, just the right length, a very good start to the subject of memory training.

An Introduction into how 2b as cool as Jesus
If you're looking for an Audio book for ?Tricks of the Mind?, then sadly this isn't it. Although there are many E-Books (& similar) claiming to provide short-cuts to Derren Brown's secrets, most are sadly not the genuine article & the best way of discovering his techniques is through reading it.
What this is (in its own words) is 'Crumbs from the Table of the Master'; it is a taster of some of the best bits of the book in order to whet your appetite for the real thing.
This particular section covers 'Memory' & includes 3 systems for remembering useful material, without rote learning or similar.
The first system is very useful for lists of random objects, the second for speeches (without notes) & the third is about how to remember people's names at parties etc. With each, he gives practical tips in using them & I personally have found the latter surprisingly effective in customer services (where remembering names is the ultimate in flattery).
So, this audio clip is not a complete work-through of ?Tricks of the Mind? but is more a glimpse at its contents in order to draw you further into the mystery of his magic.
If you, like me, enjoy audio material that is moderately stretching but not as cerebrally painful as Charles Dickens, then this is surprisingly enjoyable.
If however you are after finding out his secrets (so that you can fool Clod-pates, Halfwits & Harlequins AND Charlie-sat-before-you), then you should get the book instead.
Either way (to use one of the NLP techniques from another section), it is difficult to avoid the allure of the mysterious...

Ok for the beginner
As a huge fan of Derren Brown, I have to say I was rather disappointed that it didn't really cover anything new and was rather short - very short, in fact. That said, it's an excellent primer for the person just starting out with memory techniques. Tony Buzan's book on memory is far more in-depth and covers many more systems that are just as easily adoptable.

Highly Recommended !
Before I bought this Audiobook I was very sceptical, but as I like Derren anyway I thought I'd I've it a try.
Initially when Derren gives you a task to do, I thought yea right I'm not going to remember this... On my 1st attempt I failed, but that was because I just listened to what he was saying and didn't really take it in.
On my 2nd attempt, I really listened and did what he said, took it in and I remembered everything! All in 5 Minutes!
My memory was so appalling before but not anymore!
Thanks Derren

Useful and entertaining
Derren Brown is phenomenally talented and entertaining. This was a wonderfully useful title for me, as my memory isn't what it was! Astonished myself with what I was able to do, using his techniques.

3 very easy to grasp techniques
Useful at home, work, school, university and in social gatherings. Fun to apply too. I like listening to Derren narrate his own books as it feels like a private session with him.

Brief introduction to the methods in the book
I really enjoyed listening to this and will use it to try to work on the memory techniques covered. It covers the linking system, the loci system and how to remember names very well. The loci system is the one I wanted to focus on and so am very happy with this purchase. I think it will provide me with a good foundation of mnemonic techniques to build on.

I like that this book is to the point. I tried the exercise and it works. I taught it to my 10 year old daughter and she understood it easily. She remembers the sequence of words we remembered even after 6 months when I mostly forgot it. Please Mr Brown introduce it to schools. Be like Jamie Oliver with dinners :) These techniques could change and help so much
