Summary

A new, frighteningly realistic series from number one best-selling post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus

A bold scientific breakthrough? Or an end to modern society as we know it?

It was supposed to be a groundbreaking demonstration: Melt, a newly created compound, promised to revolutionize waste processing. When things don't go as planned and the city begins to implode, Bill and Alice Everlee are caught on opposite sides of the divide. Stuck at ground zero as the city begins to sink around her, Alice races to discover what is causing the disaster and how to stop it - if she even can.

Meanwhile, having received a frightening message from his wife, Bill hurries to pack everyone up at home before racing to a remote cottage in upstate New York to begin preparing for the coming storm.

interesting premise, but doesn't deliver...

oh dear. sounded great in summary but in actual fact very 'prepper'. lots of dialogue outdated, clumsy and a bit offensive. returned after 45 mins as couldn't bear it any longer. a real shame as v interesting premise!

Melt is an absolute cracking READ-TOTALLY LOVED IT

Melt,Kne of those unputdownable books, with a Great Concept and very lovable characters written in a style that is both intelligent and intelligible with that hint of paranoia about how science can either save or damage depending on the hands and brains that wield it.AN EXCELLENT READ I SHALL BUY THE SEQUELS STRAIGHTAWAY!!😀😀♥️♥️♥️♥️

Almost but not quite!

This could have been so much more. As it is, the whole thing was just that little bit too contrived & the actions of the 2 main characters just the wrong side of believable for me.

Just Bad

Main character is a woman who is just unbelievable. The premise of the story, while it might be possible, would never have the reactions from those involved. The ‘hero” woman is just ridiculous in her role. She goes from knowing everyone’s job and what they should do, to not not being able to judge the warning level to give her family. First it’s a major “run, run, run’ AS IF THE SKY IS FALLING, to “its ok honey false alarm.’ Totally ridiculous. I tried very hard to finish, but then when some woman living next to the husbands fall out shelter decides she’s gonna go rescue the “hero”, it was just to ridiculous. Nobody would react the way these folks do. Rushing into and around as tough women, yet acting so stupidly. Ugh.

Great Book! Enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this book so much I finished it in record time, for me anyway.
The story line captured my interest and kept it throughout the entire book.
I have read the other reviews, some good and some bad.
I have to say I agree with the good ones. I am going to start the 2nd book
In the series, “Sink”, right now. Can’t wait to see where book #2 goes.
Give it a try I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Needed a consultant

Good storyline and decent character development. However, the glaring OMG technical mistakes made are so frequent and horrendous that I could not finish the series. The deeper into the books you go, the more plentiful and more grievous they get.
No spoilers, but the authors obviously know little or nothing about actual military, police, medical, guns, combat, or technical science other than watching Hollywood movies.
One character actually (paraphrased) did so well in the Army, they were promoted to the Marines, and then promoted to the FBI. Huh? Seriously?
Also, the psychological changes undergone by the characters totally unrealistic, and worse, inconsistent even in a single person. The radical paradigm shifts some characters make, back and forth are not natural, and even borderline pathologic.
I read several books, tried to push through, really wanted to see what happens in the end, but just couldn't do it. I said WTF one too many times.
Like I said, great idea and storyline initially, but they seriously needed research and consultants. If you don't mind serious technical errors and total WTFs throughout, then you may enjoy it.
