A great exploration of Stoicism.

Andreas Athanas takes this ancient philosophy of the early Greeks and Romans and shows us how we can apply it to modern day life. In a world where the celebrity lifestyle and materialism are rife, this book makes us look internally rather than at the external world to steer us through the highs and lows of life.
Once I started listening i was unable to put it down, though heavy worded a truly magnificent introduction to the history of stoicism and how to apply it to modern day life.
Highly recommended and would certainly be reading this again.

Epicureans Beware? Self Help and History! Great

After living most of my 20's as a hedonistic raver, I started to realise that kind of life does not bring true fulfilment. Wanting to get back into a more simple, good life I looked into stoicism. This book has fantastic insight into greek/roman history through the eyes of morality and philosophy but then has ideas that have practical use in real life. I'm not religious but hard fulfilling work and living a life through reason (the thing that makes us different to other animals) is what brings true satisfaction.

Informative and Relevant!

The book" Mastering the Stoic Way of Life" Gives much content in one piece. Philosophers, fans of Stoicism, and philosophy students will also find the book helpful. This is the first book that I am listening to about Stoicism. The audiobook goes straight to the points needed and gives insight into Stoicism's philosophy, which I never knew, how it can be applied to daily living for effectiveness. The author was able to relate its helpfulness to the mind and how the principles can be used in modern life.

Mastering your own Stoic Way of Life

This audio book is truly a tour-de-force on the history of and implementation of stoicism as a way of life in the modern world. The author has clearly done an exceedingly thorough research of the subject. You can hear it in the quotes from various sources in the narrative. The catalog of historical characters in the field sent me to the internet to study up on who they were. The later chapters in the book give guidance on how to implement stoicism in your daily life and explains how it helps with many issues such as depression and even PTSD. It explains how modern science has proven it's effectiveness through the process of affirmations and the neuro-plasticity of the adult brain. This work certainly deserves a place in the library of anyone interested in this subject. I give the audio version a 4 star rating only because, in my opinion, it is not a light read. Not something to listen to while half your brain is on automatic while traveling down the highway at 70 miles per hour. I found I got the best grasp of the information while wearing headphones with eyes closed while listening to the author's extensive vocabulary painting a word picture and expressed in what I would call the narrator's “aristocratic” tone; perfect combination for the material.

Brilliant... the real deal!

I've seen a lot of books on Stoicism but many of them are just trend-followers that copy and paste from the internet. This author clearly knows his stuff and communicates it in a way that could only be done if you are a genuine expert. I've seen a lot of benefit to listening to this book and will revisit it in future as I know that reinforcing the message will only add more positivity :)

Very thorough and helpful

When I started listening to this book, I had absolutely no idea was stoicism meant. By the end of the first 3 chapters, I had a very good understanding of the topic and really enjoyed the history. You will learn how to be resilient and go through hardships without complaining. The examples and how the author ties them into today's society were very relatable. The narration is clear and very enjoyable to listen to.

Thought provoking and helpful.

You won't find a better guide, whether you are used to studying philosophy, or curiosity caused you to buy this book...even if you are learned in Stoicism, we all need a daily pep talk at some time. It takes a strong character to PRACTICE Stoicism, but if you can put aside all notions of modern day assumptions as to what Stoicism is, concentrating on the ancient laws that guide it into true Stoic nature and being, this is the book you need to experience true peace of mind.
