Summary

Peter Parker is caught in a complicated web. Working in a cutting-edge laboratory, he's a young scientist who's trying to make a difference. Yet he's constantly burdened by the responsibilities of his second career as the crime-fighting Spider-Man.

Wilson Fisk - the so-called Kingpin of Crime - has returned to New York, establishing himself publicly as an altruistic entrepreneur and philanthropist. Spider-Man knows better, but he can't uncover Fisk's scheme, which, if executed, will make the crime lord too big to fail.

When a new threat - a deadly doppelganger with Spider-Man's suit and abilities - wreaks havoc in the streets, can the real wall-crawler prove his innocence? With the clock ticking and lives on the line, can Spider-Man stop the brutal rampage of the Blood Spider? Will Spider-Man fall to his fears and foes, or will he rise and be greater?

Great Prequel

Nice little Prequel to the game, decent story and well read. Did not expect this to be as good as it was.

Slow burner but good overall

A bit slow paced dependent on what you want from the story, more of a detective type storyline, good voice actor for spidey but not a wide range of difference for the other characters voiced, worth a listen 👂

awesome

I loved this. I’m a huge spidey fan, and I thought the narrator did a great job as Pete. The author did a good job capturing Peter’s quippy personality too, and made me laugh several times.
I played the game back when it came out, and am replaying it now after listening to this prequel book, in anticipation of the new game coming out soon.

Fun, action-packed and a light read

As a prequel to the 2019 video game, this Spider-Man story ties in perfectly without any previous knowledge required to enjoy it completely.

The pacing is great, and so is the character development - having the narrative from the perspective of multiple characters was a great way to break it up and at no point did the story feel flat.

Overall, really enjoyed it.

pretty good but has some strange moments

I did mostly enjoy this and can reasonably believe this as a prequel to the PS4 spiderman game but I feel like Echo had too quick of a turn around? like she just believes this police document about her father's death? I feel like she could have easily called it fake, or if she had really been this obsessed with her father's murder, wouldn't she have tried to find out what the police had on him herself instead of just trusting fisk? she loves and respects him, sure but she clearly doesn't follow everything he says down to the letter.

Another thing that bothers me a tad is Norman talking about Harry's "trip" and acting like he should be doing something more important? He knows his son is going for this special treatment right?? why is he acting like it's an actual teen holiday? was it just an act for Peter? if so it probably should have been clarified, an extra scene from Harry's perspective just before he went for treatment would probably have been a good idea.

The cameo from Jefferson was cute but I feel like it would have been mentioned in game if Jeff had met spiderman once before, just a nitpick tho.

last thing is that I feel like fisk would have tried to out Osborn's secrets if he still had that devil's breath file on him, maybe he just felt like it wasn't enough proof but It still seems fisk would have tried to destroy Osborn after this stuff he pulls in this book. feels like that should have been touched on more.

Overall it was still a fun book, these were all little complaints I had that I felt like should have been explained better but by no means ruins the story. had a blast listening to this and I can't wait to check out the Miles Morales prequel book next!

Surprising but very good

I didn’t expect it to be as good as this by a long shot!

I decided to listen to this book before starting the game and now that I’ve finished I can’t wait to play!
The performer was really good, I felt as he did different voices (even female ones) that each voice felt like a totally different character.

Even if you’re not a major spider-man fan this is a good mystery/crime novel that was very satisfying.

A good prequel to the game

I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I had played the game beforehand and still found the book really interesting. You get to know what Peter Parker was doing before the game and how it leads to the game’s opening.

I would definitely recommend to anyone who has played the game or is thinking about playing it.
