Doyle is a disappointing detective

I really enjoyed the first book although Doyle didn't do much detecting. The second book was good but again Doyle did very little to solve the crime and this third one has only confirmed my suspicion that Doyle is a crap detective. He seems to spend the whole book saying things like "why didn't I see that" or "I really messed that up". He seems to miss even the most obvious clues and although the basic story is good he doesn't bring anything to it. Have to say I was disappointed. Shame.

Turgid

I am a fan of David Jackson, and the 'Doyle' series, but this book doesn't seem to work.
There is no suspense, and there is a turgid theme that becomes boring.
Doyle in this book seems to have had some sort of metamorphosis and his character seems lessened, self indulgent, and VERY wearing.
The disappointment I personally have felt will not stop me reading David Jackson novels. He has a hypnotic almost poetic style that can engage and involve, it just didn't work for me this time.
Nick Landrow's narration is as always superb in bringing Doyle to life.

harrowing

Violent, distressing, Callum Doyle is becoming reckless, and not such a nice guy. However I was hooked, and stayed with it as all is revealed, though a lot of blood was shed..

Gripping story

Flawed Doyle - excellent character, you really feel his emotions. Romped through this book anc have read several of the author’s other books. Highly recommended

Bit brutal!

I’ve enjoyed these books but at times it feels ”when is he going to learn?” Like when you watch a horror film and you think don’t open the door! Some one is generally going to open the door!
