About this listen

Following the success of At Blackwater Pond, this second CD from best-selling poet Mary Oliver contains a selection of 37 previously published poems and four as yet uncollected, read by the poet in her steady, magnetic voice. Oliver recites from the full range of her poetry - from her classic nature writing, to her verses for her mischievous bichon Percy, to her ever-deepening spiritual poems. Many Miles will be a most welcome addition to the collections of her fans.

Beautiful poetry - needs space to sink in

I love Mary Oliver & her beautiful poetry. It's great to hear her reading them herself. There is so much to relish in this collection.

However, there is not enough space at the end of each poem. It's hard to tell sometimes where one poem ends & the next begins - the pauses within the poem are sometimes longer than the pauses between. This is a formatting issue that Audible people should sort out. Even switching to the Sleep mode that pauses play at the end of each. Chapter doesn't help - despite each poem being a separate chapter. In some cases, the title of the next poem is cut in half, one word being at the end of the last poem and the rest at the start of the next poem. These slap-dash production values do not match the superb quality of the poetry and the reading. I've heard Mary Oliver perform her work live and she paces things beautifully. Please please poetry audiobook people, pay attention to the silence at the end of a poem so that we can pause and be astonished!

Beautiful poems by Oliver

Wonderful work by Mary Oliver, and wonderful to hear her perform them. The only small remark to say is that in their recording the poems have merged together as not a long enough pause had been left between the end of one and the beginning of another, and this somehow takes away from the beauty of her craft.

Needs longer pauses

Mary Oliver’s poetry is beautiful and enigmatic. She reads it very well and gives each poem time between each line. However, this is spoiled by the lack of pauses between each poem because of editing on Audible’s part. Please put longer pauses between each poem in!

Lovely, but...

The poems are exquisite, and who better to read than the author BUT each poem follows so quickly on the one before that the listening experience is uncomfortable
