Do the lessons passed down to us by history, lessons whose origins may lie hundreds, even thousands of years in the past, still have value for us today? Is Santayana's oft-repeated saying, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," merely a way to offer lip service to history as a teacher-or can we indeed learn from it? And if we can, what is it that we should be learning?

Our understanding of the American West has moved far beyond pop culture in recent years. The legendary people and events we associate with the Wild West - the last stand at the Alamo, the Battle of Little Bighorn, the exploits of Calamity Jane, the hardships of the Oregon Trail - are even more fascinating once the historical realities have been separated from the myths.

Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online. This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.

Summary
Dr. Eliza Raines has just made the discovery of a lifetime: Actual alien ruins on the surface of Mars. But during a massive dust storm, her expedition and mankind’s first colony on the Martian surface falls radio silent. It’s assumed to be a downed transmitter in the storm.
The resupply vessel Murcielago, and its crew, are directed to assist with repairs. But neurotic ship’s engineer Leo Taggart can’t shake the idea something is terribly wrong. Gruff military policeman Kyle Locklear is confident in his team’s ability to handle whatever’s going on.
But within minutes of arriving, the ground team is attacked and the orbiting ship is infiltrated by two different alien species. Soon, both men are thrust into leading mankind’s first defense against an extra-stellar threat. But we aren’t the targets of these creatures - we’re just underfoot.
And the key to our survival may be in the hands of Dr. Raines....

A waste of time
What juvenile garbage this book was. It constantly repeating descriptions, soldiers who are inept and clueless to the point of annoying! Between the narrator and ridiculous plot and repeating descriptions (how many times can you describe a camera as "an eye, focusing" just to immediately repeat the phrase two more times. Major Highschool junk.

Company on the Red Planet
When a colony on Mars suddenly goes radio-silent a ship is sent out to investigate ... and that's when the bad stuff happens.
Manifest Destiny is a first contact story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and sleeping with the lights on. Well crafted and with interesting characters, it's an intense story about man's struggle with not one, but two alien races. The science is good and the aliens are nasty, but entirely plausible.
Well worth the read.

Welcome to Mars!
Most authors should not narrate their own work, but that is not the case with Manifest Destiny’s author because Allen Ivers is a fantastic narrator; he really brings his story and characters to life.
When a sandstorm knocks out communications to the Mars colony, a team of military police are sent in to help with repairs and any other issues that might arise. They do not get a warm welcome… encountering everything from mind altering parasites to stone zombies. This story is loaded with action both on the surface of Mars and on the vessel that transported the repair team. If you are a fan of the Alien series, you should really enjoy this audiobook. I hope the author continues writing and narrating follow-up books in this storyline.

Reminds me of the movie Alien
Manifest Destiny by Allen Ivers is a Science Fiction Horror/Thriller. The Mars colony, Manifest Destiny, has gone radio silent. A team is sent to help repair their radio equipment. When the team arrives, they are immediately attacked by a weapon that can sheer a human in half. Once the team takes out the weapon, they immediately head into the Manifest Destiny. There is only one problem. No one is home. What happened to all of the colonists? Who built the weapon that attacked them?
The first several chapters of the book give you a ton of information. It is a lot to take in, but well worth it when the action starts. The action in the book reminded me of the movie Alien. Think constant action with a high death count. I can easily see this book being made into a movie. Death lurks around every corner. Don't let your guard down for one minute, or it may be your last.
The author narrates his own work and does a great job! I liked his interpretation of the action and characters. I wonder if he has read other books. I would love to hear more books narrated by him.
There is one production error in Chapter 17, 13:09, where a phrase is repeated.

Great Story
This was an interesting book, different from others I have read in syfi. I like the cops in the book because most of them are taking the mission seriously. The way the book starts lets you know how it will be for the rest of it. There is action from start to finish and the overall mystery of what happened to the scientists. The creature in the book has a good mind control thing going on, even if it is not technically mind control. I was sorry so many of the characters met a bad end, but it makes the story good. I really enjoyed the narrator for this story also he did a good job. I will look for other books by this author to see if I enjoy more of them.

Very dark, a good listen but disquieting
This is a horror story in space on Mars and although a good listen, it not a happy tale. Good character development at reasonable plot with a high speed adventure that does keep you glued to the story.
Perhaps a good read for a dark stormy night that you need a few more bad dreams
