Story
In Everthing Is F*cked, Mark Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us. Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another. He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment, and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Summary
Best-selling author Mark Manson brings his signature no-nonsense wisdom back to the subject he started his career covering: relationships. Being with your partner may feel like rainbows and unicorns, but that doesn't mean you have a healthy, functioning relationship. Sure, we all need love...but love is not enough.
In Love Is Not Enough, Mark’s first Audible Original, you’ll follow five real people over the course of six months as they navigate f--ked up romantic situations, ranging from dating app addiction to marital affairs to absurd fantasies. At regular intervals, they check in with Mark, share their stories, and soak up some advice. As you listen to these candid, funny, and moving conversations, you’ll learn how to stand up for yourself when you feel the most vulnerable. You'll learn how our imaginations derail intimacy, how our deepest desires can lead us into trouble. You'll learn how to open yourself up, and you'll develop the courage to say and hear that necessary word, "no." You'll learn how to love. And you'll learn that love is not enough.

Overhyped
I decided to give this a go based on an article I found on the Guardian. Found it obvious, cliched, in your face and even unnatural/forced/faked. Esther Perel's podcasts are infinitely better and more worth anyone's time than this. Disappointing overall.

Upbeat American relationship podcast
Like Sarah Knight, Mark Manson is best known for his self help books with profanity spewn titles that have become best sellers in recent years. Mark specialises in relationship advice and he has an analytical but friendly approach to subjects such as boundaries, comparability and, of course, love. Trent Reznor famously sang "Love is Not Enough" on industrial rock band Nine Inch Nail's 2005 album "With Teeth" and Mark Manson takes this theme in the book. This is more of a podcast than his other works and he interviews a series of upbeat and open Americans about their relationship issues and unpicks their problems and offers his advice as to what they are doing wrong. The participants in this book all seem like real people and were selected from around 500 people who contacted the author. It all seems fairly straightforward when you break it down to constituent parts of what makes a good relationship; respect being top of the list. At the end of the day we are all looking for "All of the Love in the World", we do not want "Every Day Exactly the Same" and it ids best if we do not bite "The Hand that Feeds" or we will enter a "Downward Spiral", become a "Pretty Hate Machine" and end up "Broken".

Mark Manson laughs at animal abuse
In this book, Mark Manson laughs at animal abuse. I can get past him providing relationship guidance to a woman in a long term relationship with a married man in the context it is provided. What I can not get past, is Mark laughing at a woman having sex with her dog. Sex with an animal is abuse. What it is not, is funny. It is a felony in many states, as it should be in all of them.
Shame on Mark Manson. Shame on Audible.

Upsetting and disappointing
Mark chose 5 cases out of thousands of relationship issues, and guess what he chose? He is actually counseling one woman on how to have a better relationship with her married affair partner of 3 yrs! I was appalled! Is that so common is his professional experience that he thinks the rest of us want to know how to have better relationships with our affair partners! I am still upset from reading and just returned the book

Not Mark’s best work
I love Mark Manson’s books but this one wasn’t his best. It was hard getting through this one. This book just consists of a bunch of therapy sessions between him and people struggle with relationships. It’s pain listening to the clients when they talk. I tried picking things out that I could relate to but the presentation of the information was the issue.

Keep doing what you're doing!!
I have been an avid Mason reader for a while now. Looking forward to the Will Smith book buddy... I know you're going to kill it!! He always keeps me engaged with the stories, philosophies, and ideas of how to look at things in a different perspective and that is something that is cherished and that is valuable to me. This new project "Love Is Not Enough" is something everybody should take a look at. People sometimes get stuck in these modes of thinking that end up hindering their ability to live fully and happy ("The chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken"). So thank you Mark for inspiring me to be a better me. If I happen to see you in a bar someday... drinks are on me! Cheers!

Helpful to hear the pitfalls of other people
Sometimes it is hard to self reflect on ways we may come up messy in a relationship, or the ways that we self sabotage from the one thing we want: to feel loved and accepted. Listening to the struggle of other's can help, as you can reflect on your experiences and see where you too may have fallen in a similar mind trap, all in the name of protecting yourself. The book is fun to listen to, though I felt the stories were very extreme and it was hard to relate to the people he interviewed. I was hoping to hear a story from a less dramatic person but I guess it is those stories that our media loves to highlight. Mark Mason has a very nonjudgmental approach to how he sits and listens, though he is assessing things, but still I appreciate how he narrates and engages with each person. It is a good listen.
