Summary

Into the woods.

A leper's daughter is found in the well of a dying hamlet, and the only suspect has fled into Feckenham Forest. But the sun is setting, and Warwickshire's sheriff is hunting his new crowner. That sends Sir Faucon de Ramis and Brother Edmund, his prickly clerk, racing for a nearby abbey only to meet the man he least wishes to see at the abbey gates. Before long, Faucon finds himself riding into the dark at Sir Alain's side as they hunt for yet another lost innocent.

Great characters and plot.

Almost too short - I wanted it to continue as I ‘binge listened’! Perfect narration and a plot that moved and surprised. I so hope the next in the series isn’t the last. There’s definitely more to all the characters yet to be discovered. The historical detail is a real bonus and the people balance each other perfectly. How long can I resist buying the next book?

Convoluted

So many twists and turns that I couldn't stop listening until the early hours. Wonderful narration of another engrossing mystery in the series.

what a brilliant book

so engaging, characters so lively, I'm delighted that Alf joined the Crowner and his (infuriating) clerk, can't wait to start the next book as so far each book in the series is better than the previous one and ALL are really good

Good character development.

I like the characters and the plots as they’ve developed so far. Will continue with the next.

Love them

The whole of this series of books have been so good. All the characters are likeable or suitably unlikeable. But the best thing is the narration! Terrific.

Crime investigation in Medieval England

Intricate tales of hidden truths and injustice. The plotting is good but there are many long passages of rather static descriptions of events or interpretations of the past. I found this wearisome and I am unsure if I would search for another in the series.
