Summary

New York Times best-seller.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

When the Emperor and his notorious apprentice, Darth Vader, find themselves stranded in the middle of insurgent action on an inhospitable planet, they must rely on each other, the Force, and their own ruthlessness to prevail.

"It appears things are as you suspected, Lord Vader. We are indeed hunted."

Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight, is just a memory. Darth Vader, newly anointed Sith Lord, is ascendant. The Emperor's chosen apprentice has swiftly proven his loyalty to the dark side. Still, the history of the Sith Order is one of duplicity, betrayal, and acolytes violently usurping their Masters - and the truest measure of Vader's allegiance has yet to be taken. Until now.

On Ryloth, a planet crucial to the growing Empire as a source of slave labor and the narcotic known as "spice", an aggressive resistance movement has arisen, led by Cham Syndulla, an idealistic freedom fighter, and Isval, a vengeful former slave. But Emperor Palpatine means to control the embattled world and its precious resources - by political power or firepower - and he will be neither intimidated nor denied. Accompanied by his merciless disciple, Darth Vader, he sets out on a rare personal mission to ensure his will is done.

For Syndulla and Isval, it's the opportunity to strike at the very heart of the ruthless dictatorship sweeping the galaxy. And for the Emperor and Darth Vader, Ryloth becomes more than just a matter of putting down an insurrection: When an ambush sends them crashing to the planet's surface, where inhospitable terrain and an army of resistance fighters await them, they will find their relationship tested as never before. With only their lightsabers, the dark side of the Force, and each other to depend on, the two Sith must decide if the brutal bond they share will make them victorious allies or lethal adversaries.

Praise for Lords of the Sith:

“A compelling tale [that] gives us new insight into the relationship between Darth Vader and his master, Emperor Palpatine.” (New York Daily News)

“Endlessly fascinating...a tale [that is] not just compelling but completely thrilling.” (Big Shiny Robot)

“The best novel so far in this new era of official canon Star Wars stories.” (IGN)

“Packed with action...hard to put down.” (Seattle Geekly)

Small story , Big action

the story of the novel was a small star wars story (which many canon novels are ) and I feel this is perfect for star wars these insights into world's and characters for one book has proven a winning formula for Lucas story team.

this novel was a example of character investment done right for villians
yes their evil but in away you should route for the hero's of this story but like any star wars fan who wants Vader to loose ? having him fight off and kill many is always a sight to behold or be read.

I feel the novel does blend the 3 different story arcs well
Vader and palpatines relationship
the rebels of ryloth and their plans
and the imperial rivalry.

though the book in some places felt to be bloated with the ryloth rebels for a novel about palpatine and Vader I found a extra chapter or so of them would of made the novel live up to the name sake.

it's no Darth bane
it's no Darth plaguies but it's yet again another canon story that explores Vader well and is a must read for Vader comic fans , star wars fans and even anyone Interested how the sith relationship between master and apertanice works

Okay, first half

Struggled to finish. Was good at first but really boring towards the end.

Honestly I wanted a book about the Sith Lords, not some guy nobody has heard of called Cham, who I appreciate may be somewhat known by some but he is 90% the focus of the book - I don't care about him and I didn't buy a book about him; so stop forcing his boring story on me.

Great Star Wars world-building.

This was a predictable story but the way it got there was good. World-building around Twi'leks and always great to hear the exploits of Darth Vader. The sound effects added to the immersion. The narrator was excellent and put on voices for the characters.

Great story and audiobook

This is one of my favourites from the new canon and the production of the audio version is excellent. Jonathan Davies is superb at reading and bringing all the characters to life.

Sith LOR is great for the Dark Side Apprentice's out there

The title should mention the resistance due to how much they included in the story. It's kind of annoying TBH. The end is also a let down. Overall a gd story though!

A jolly good romp

I read some of the negative reviews about this book and I partially agree with the sentiment that the title is misleading - if you're after a story that focuses solely on Sith lords then you might want to skip it.

If however, you want a story about the seeds of the Rebel Alliance, and how 2 Sith lords attempt to thwart any attempts to begin a rebellion, then this is the book for you.

There are negative reviews about meaningless characters, these are reviewers that have either never seen the Clone Wars animated series, Star Wars Rebels or even Ahsoka, or they have seen them and not made the connections.

This story connects dots from all those shows mentioned above, and because of that, you do care for the characters. Because I'm emotionally invested in the wider franchise, the ending got to me.

Above all though, any chapter or passage containing Palpatine and Vader are pure scene-stealers, and the author portrays their duplicitous relationship perfectly.

in summary, ignore the haters, you can't have a story about The Emperor and Vader without some protagonists, and I feel that the setting and the characters were essential to the plot, and were essential reading.

If you care about Filoni's input into the Star Wars universe, then you'll fully buy into this story, which is also expertly produced with sound effects and John Williams' score, and the narration is ridiculously good. Bravo to the production, but equal bravo goes to the author.

Fantastically well-written story with interesting ending and serviceable narration

If you enjoyed the in-depth explorations of the sacrifices, consequences and motivations for the rebels in the Star Wars universe in shows like Andor or Rouge: One, then you’re in for a treat. Yearn for Vader stories where the mechanical Sith Lord gets to unleash all his rage and power whilst confronting his new life as a cyborg underling and compare it what his past life as a Jedi had been? Moreover, enjoy when the Emperor takes matters into his own hands and interacts with his appprentice? Then I highly recommend this audiobook. Follows up on the skirmishes Palpatine has to handle while his Empire is still young and the Rebellion has not formally started, and how he always stays ten steps ahead and foresees everything before it happens. Plenty of new, well-fleshed characters with different morals, guts and beliefs that asks: how much are the good guys willing to risk to kill the dark lords of the Sith and how much would Vader and his master expose themselves to destroy insurrection?
