About this listen

When the world believes the lies, who can you trust with the truth?

Vilified celebrity Jackson Young stands accused of a murder he didn't commit. Desperate to clear his name as the world turns against him, he finds solace in the unlikeliest of allies.

Journalist Fletcher Doherty, relegated to the gossip columns, is handed the most explosive story of his career. The catch? It's about Jackson Young, a man he's publicly condemned.

Forced to put aside their animosity for the sake of the story, Fletcher and Jackson grow closer with each encounter. But neither is prepared for the irresistible pull that lands them in bed together.

Yet, in a world where betrayal lurks behind every headline, who truly is the enemy?

Falling for his book's subject could be fatal for Fletcher. And Jackson knows better than to trust a journalist, especially one who's built a career on tearing him down.

Get a neck brace

There are so many twists and turns in this suspense/mystery trilogy you’ll need a neck brace.

In the murky world of show business, nothing is as it seems and there is much money to be had. Where big money is involved, the people who have it will go to any lengths to protect it, including blackmail, kidnap, rape and murder.

At the start of the first book we meet Jackson, a big tv star who, along with his co-star Chris, grew up in front of the cameras, loved by the nation. Except, he’s just spent six months in prison, having been accused of the murder of his girlfriend.

On release, because of lack of evidence for the crime, he tracks down a journalist, who Jackson hopes will write his side of the story. However, this rookie journalist Fletcher, a gossip columnist for a magazine, was one of the last people who saw Jackson the night of Tules’ death and happened to be the same journalist that Jackson punched for giving his theatre performance a bad review.

Fletcher agrees to writing Jackson’s biography, though neither of them knew at that point how deep and how bad things behind the scenes really were. While digging into Jackson’s story Fletcher finds that he has to pick a side. But who is telling the truth? And who can he trust? Lines get blurred between writer and subject, to becoming friends and maybe more.

This trilogy takes us on a road with so many twists and turns and a few blind alleys. If you think you’ve got it worked out, then think again, not everything is as it seems. If you’re like me, you’ll be shouting at the (whatever device you’re listening to this on) in frustration and at times you’ll be dialling up the anxiety to eleven.

This is an awesome story. It starts off slow, with a lot of character and plot building However, it is so incredibly well written and so well narrated that it’s worth your time. Piers Ryman’s accents are second to none and he really puts everything into his story telling. Set a day or two aside as once you start the first part you’ll need to know what happens in this suspense trilogy.
