Summary

Alex Ryan lives a simple life. She has her farm in the Scottish countryside, and the self-imposed seclusion suits her until a crime that has haunted her for years tears through the calm and shatters the fragile peace she'd finally managed to find.

Lori Hunter's greatest love is the mountains. They're her escape from the constant hustle and bustle of everyday life. Growing up was neither traditional nor easy for Lori, but now she's beginning to realize she's settled for both. A dead-end relationship and little to look forward to. Her solution when the suffocation sets in? Run for the hills.

A chance encounter in the mountains of the Scottish Highlands leads Alex and Lori into a whirlwind of heartache and a fight for survival as they build a formidable bond that will be tested to its ultimate limits.

Contains mature themes.

Brilliant lesfic drama. Well written and narrated

An interesting and dramatic story which I found refreshing because of its unusual Scottish setting. As well as crime drama it includes a lovely lesbian awakening and romance. The narrator reads with good character definition, gorgeous Scottish accents as well as believable English ones and all the necessary emotion to convey the story beautifully.
I will definitely look out for more written by Wendy Hudson and/or narrated by Ruth Urquhart - hopefully Audible has more by these two talents.

very slow story

too many slow unnecessary chapters, I fell asleep through 30 of them but I didn't feel I'd missed anything, it just didn't grab me. The narrator shouldn't have bothered trying to do the accents, but if we all liked the same thing then we wouldn't have anything. It just wasn't for me, but it might be fantastic to someone else.

The Scottish accent

This book is great.
It’s read beautifully and the Scottish accent does something to me.
It has a great story line.. that you don’t expect at the beginning of the story. The romance and connection between Lori and Alex is phenomenal. The sex scene is quite light so anyone can read it, nothing to reveling. Would recommend to one who’s looking for a sapphic book.

Enjoyable

I like a crime/romance combo and the book does it nicely. It’s well written with good characters and nice momentum. I also really enjoy the narration provided by Ruth Urquhart.

A tense and thrilling book

The performance of the book was excellent, all voices were completely convincing with an interesting collection of high-flying young people. Some interesting characters introduced at Alex’s farmhouse seemed to be lost after a couple of chapters which made the scene irrelevant, however most of the story was strong enough to overlook this. It would have been a delightful touch to meet up with Frank at the end.
