Summary

In January 2015, Dick and Angel Strawbridge embarked on the journey of a lifetime when they swapped their cosy two-bedroom flat in East London for a derelict château with 12 acres of land in the Loire valley.

Where Sunday Times best seller A Year at the Château told the entertaining and heartwarming beginning of the family's French adventure, as they found their forever home and began to restore and renovate the dilapidated castle, Living The Château Dream is about the years of hard graft that followed. Dick and Angel leapt into action transforming Château-de-la-Motte Husson into both a thriving family home and a sustainable business and began making their dream of rural life in a fairytale castle a reality.

From throwing open the shutters to new suites to exploring the walled garden, launching their wedding business and hosting guests for Food Lover's Weekends, no stone was left unturned. From enormous tasks like installing a lift to the beginnings of lifelong traditions and memories such as investigating the seasonal delights of the surroundings and having a family sleepover on the moat, this much-anticipated follow-up includes many firsts for the Strawbridge family. As Dick and Angel recount stories of the renovations that took place over the next four years at the château, we start to understand the true extent of the work and skill that it has taken to make this incredible house into a much-loved home.

With stories of remarkable discoveries and unexpected challenges, amazing transformations and once-in-a-lifetime celebrations, this book is sure to delight, entertain and inspire fans in equal measure.

A sweet listen

I think this is for fans of the show,as the text conjures up the pictures in your head from the series. It fleshes out scenarios we have seen, giving it deeper meaning. This memoir has little anxt or frustration of living the chateau life it just depicts the family's best life, perhaps not their real life. In many ways , the strength of the book is in its optimism and charm and this charm offensive is also it's weakness.

I did come with prior knowledge of the series and I enjoyed their text and their delivery. I am not sure that their delivery style would work fo those not familiar with the television show.

I did laugh hysterically at Angel's description of how to hollow out a book to turn it into a container for a Christmas gift Her instructions sound bizarre when heard on audible. Perhaps audible is not an appropriate medium.Likewise, Dick's recipes seem to pad the book rather than add to it.

So wonderful to hear the next step in the journey at the Chateau, beautifully narrated and highly engaging. We can’t wait to visit at some point in the future!

Very special

I've watched the TV show , read the books and heard it told.
It really is a fabulous tale of family, achievement and love.
I will listen to Dick and Angel many times while walking my dog and working in the garden, there voices telling me of life at The Chateau is a bit of magic.

Mixed feelings

This is my second attempt to listen to their’Chateau Adventures.’ Can’t fault the work ethic! This couple have poured their hearts and masses of money into a neglected French chateau. In many chapters I find myself quite rapt then they descend into saccharine sweet descriptions of life with their two adorable children and I squirm and fast forward. That is a huge put down. My biggest problem is the same one I mentioned when I reviewed the first audio book. Oh Angel!! Your voice is hard to thole. You have interesting things to say when you are not irritating me about wonderful A and D. and how you all snuggle together into your big bed. Everyone who has kids hopefully loves them but why ram them down our throats? YUK!
A London accent like yours is no benefit to anyone working in audio but I actually struggle to understand what you banging on about!
Her ‘up and down’ London delivery is enough to make me switch off. Then comes Dick’s more deliberate, clearer delivery. Any Sandhurst education gives some advantage and he is one hell of an engineer and brilliant cook.
Talented couple doing well - take a glance at their new website- Lots of Chateau tat to enhance your life in boring Blighty! Roll up, roll up and buy, buy buy.
If they manage to cobble together No 3 I will probably buy it if only for Dick’s recipes and attempts to speak ‘French’, my second language.
My advice is- make hay while the sun shines. It’s bound to run out and I can’t be the only person who find your strenuous attempts to make a ‘pain au chocolate’ life out of vintage rubbish utterly commendable.

Don’t waste your money

This is awful. Angela’s voice is grating and can only make out half of what she is saying. Dicks narration is good but the content is boring in the extreme.

Old Hat!

Pleasant to listen to once Angel got going a bit. Most of the book is stuff that’s been watched and rewatched on earlier series of Escape to the Chateau 2016, 2017. Not a lot of anything different. Feel a bit let down. Had been looking forward to an update. A money raiser perhaps?!
