Summary

Kim and Mia Timmers were just 11 years old when they were imprisoned in a local psychiatric institution, accused of murdering the man they believed to be responsible for the death of their family. Now, 10 years later, they are due for release.

Detective Pieter Vos is given cause to reopen the case when the girls disappear. His investigation takes an unexpected turn when it becomes clear that someone is posing as Little Jo - Kim and Mia's other sister, who was killed along with their parents....

Crime fiction at its best

An Ingenious plot, tantalising twists, convincing characterisation, tragic denouement: all delivered consummately by Saul Reichlin.

Not my favourite

Have enjoyed the other stories so much more. The cast and point of view too many this time, difficult to get invested in any of them and Vos comes across as just a bit part player sadly

Angry Characters, sombre plot and humourless

Any additional comments?

David Hewson is without doubt a terrific writer. His books are atmospheric, clever, beautifully written, with characters who are defined and believable. Little Sister contains all these elements, yet its sombre plot, angry characters who are all yelling and screeching at each other, apart from the main character who remains calm throughout, tends to make the listener wish the whole sordid story would end. Working out who dunnit with a choice of nasty people asks the listener to pay very close attention, and this sometimes is hard when you want to shut down the ranting and raving of these people. Dark memories, secretive pasts leads to a grand present finale with an ending that leaves you wondering why did you just wade through hours and hours of listening time. I recommend to all David Hewson fans, you will not be disappointed. However if you are depressed, feeling melancholy or needing an injection of humour or laughter, then perhaps give this audio a miss.

Another cracking good story from David Hewson

The next chapter in the Amsterdam series. You can listen as a stand alone story but why not start from the beginning!

I like the Amsterdam police in this story, they are straightforward and not too hung up on their personal lives. The story is the centre with few distractions.

The story is fast paced, with interesting twists and turns. Saul Reichlin is a great narrator and I like the consistency of the same narrator for each book.

Make Sure you Read in the Correct Order

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like Hewson's other books you will love this one

Any additional comments?

I made the mistake of listening to Little Sister First, the Audible site has them in the incorrect order, this is in fact book 3 so it has ruined it a little for me.

Brilliant!

Great listening, weaves like in a maze, you think you are getting the answer only to find that there is more to the puzzle. Narrator really good too, weaves the tale convincingly - still guessing at the end! However you do find out !😊

Sorry, just got bored!

What would have made Little Sister better?

I really don't know what to say, I tried to listen, then found myself skipping to the next chapter, and in the end gave up. The story just didn't seem to get anywhere fast and I really did not care what happened to the girls, or anyone else.

What will your next listen be?

Lee Childs and Harlan Corben

What didn’t you like about Saul Reichlin’s performance?

Found it flat and uninteresting to listen to

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment and boredom

Not a fan

The story failed to get me really engaged, a lot of words for what seemed a thin storyline. I still find Saul Reichlin’s impersonation of female voices almost infuriating - he makes all females sound as if they had the age and intellectual capacity of 5 year olds...

This story just dragged

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I cannot say really, I found it a very long winded

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The story actually picked up the pace at the end. The last line was very memorable

Would you listen to another book narrated by Saul Reichlin?

This is a hard one to answer. I have always enjoyed Saul Reichlin as a narrator, but on this occasion, I found his narration like being dragged through treacle. There were no defining characters they all blended into one, and on occasions sounded as if they were quite simple

If this book were a film would you go see it?

NO

Any additional comments?

Really disappointed I wish the author would return to the Nic Costa books
