Summary

Darrow returns as Pierce Brown’s New York Times bestselling Red Rising series continues in the thrilling sequel to Dark Age.

“The measure of a man is not the fear he sows in his enemies. It is the hope he gives his friends.”—Virginia au Augustus

The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains.

But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend.

The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Critic reviews

"Tim Gerard Reynolds returns with another installment in the rich sci-fi saga Red Rising.... Reynolds's expert performance provides the charisma necessary for many of the diplomatic scenes to work. Fans will rejoice at long-awaited reunions, all performed with care. The dialogue is well paced and delivered with the right amount of emotion. Fans of Red Rising will find Reynolds's delivery just as passionate as the writing. Overall, Reynolds ensures that this installment is another robust addition to the series." Great story looking forward to the finale

Great development of characters, great duels, ends with a great potential finale

I personally prefer the different voice actors as it was easier to tell the difference between Darrow and Lysander but overall voice performance is excellent

Fantastic

Brilliant simply brilliant

I read in another review that Tim Gerard Reynolds (TGR) could not pull off the different voices, nothing could be further from the truth.

In my opinion audio books are made by their narrators, specially when it’s a series, it’s like a warm blanket it’s even down to the way names are pronounced. TGR makes the red rising books.

So I hope that Pierce Brown makes the decision to re-record Iron Gold and Dark Age with TGR as sole narrator while we wait for Red God.

It wouldn’t matter having different narrators if there was no cross over, but it just doesn’t work when you have anyone other than TGR voicing Sevro for example.

Mr Brown please listen and re-record because IG and DA simply isn’t the same without Tim.

Another set of exciting twists and turns

I wasn't sure what to expect from this, and I didn't expect what I got. I loved the earlier books in this series and this has probably been one of the better ones. Exciting throughout, as usual never sure what is going to happen as we're taken on twists and turns from cover to cover. Absolutely brilliant.

I need the next book like now!!

I’m really going to miss these books! I feel like the finale is going to quite traumatic!! multiple listen throughs now. Will have to start again for the 7th time when the next book is released. I’m so glad Pierce went back to just Tim as the narrator. While multiple view points works for some stories it didn’t really work in the last book just because we had already created a connection to the characters voices through Tim’s voice. However 4 star for performance it felt like Tim had forgotten the voices he created and took a while to get any flow was very hard to decipher Daro or lysander early on. And Sevros voice was not as recognisable to begin with either. Got better as it went on though.
