Summary

Reagan Summerside returns in nationally best-selling author Duffy Brown's fifth Consignment Shop mystery.

There are two social functions in Savannah guaranteed to get people talking: weddings and funerals. And just as consignment shop owner Reagan Summerside agrees to marry the hunky Walker Boone, her neighbors, sisters Annie Fritz and Elsie Abbot, step up their business as professional mourners. They are so successful that the Sleepy Pines Retirement Center has hired them as a part of their retirement package. But the celebration over good business is cut short when the residents at Pines suddenly begin dying at an alarming rate. And the sisters are the first suspects.

Reagan has her doubts, however, and begins to look into the strange phenomenon. But then something even stranger happens: a body winds up in the sisters' white Caddy. The evidence begins to pile up, and the suspicious case of Willie Fishbine, who swindled the sisters out of a fortune and coincidentally died prior to the Pines case, is reopened. Not wanting Willie to be buried until they can find the killer responsible for the murders, Reagan must catch the culprit in time to walk down the aisle.

Witty, fabulous, and full of charm, Lethal in Old Lace is perfect for fans of Ellery Adams and Jenn McKinlay.

An ok romp

A lighthearted murder mystery which once you can get passed the southern belle accent wax actually ok. It’s not to serious but my only gripe was the continuous need to tell us how gorgeous and sexy Bo was. Once was enough.

Maybe having only the fifth book...

...in the series is a mistake. The characters seemed clichéd and one dimensional to me and the reader was annoying. But then again, it was a freebie...

A charming mystery with humour

A charming mystery that I really enjoyed, mainly because of the humours situations the characters found themselves in. This is book five in the series (but the first book I have read or listened too), it was easy to follow and because it was so much fun I think I might just have to start the whole series from the beginning. The characters were delightful and I really liked them as a group, especially the feisty Aunty and the over acting elderly neighbours. The mystery certainly was interesting, with the body that keep disappearing and the one they had to hide and with so much going on the listener never got time to get board, not that you could have done with all the laughing that went on. I think this is a series that I will have to be added to my audible collection for when I need cheering up.
Reagan is dragged to a funeral for a man nobody liked, except his grandson, because there isn't enough mourners in attendance. Her aunt Kiki does the unthinkable and steals a chocolate bar from the coffin when the cookies prove to be less than appetizing and gets caught by the grandson. Full of tears and a video, he blackmails Reagan and Kiki into putting a replacement bar back into the coffin and while there checking out a rash because he thinks his grandfather was murdered. Reagan also has her own problems, walking home from the funeral she finds a dead body in her elderly neighbours car but it has gone before she comes back with help. Deciding to ignore the dead woman, she is surprised to find it in her shop but not when once again it's gone, only to be found buried in the back garden of the elderly sisters. This time the police are on hand to accuse the sister. Both bodies have a connect to the sisters, as the dead man conned them out of a lot of money and the Lacy was found in there garden but there is another connect. They both lived in a retirement home, will sending Kiki in undercover where the residents are dropping like flies help find the killer and stop the sisters from getting arrested? Or will it put her life in danger by living with a killer?
