Summary

A nail-biting story of courage, bravery, rebellion and war from the master of adventure fiction.

The war is over; Hitler is dead - and yet his evil legacy lives on. Saffron Courtney and her beloved husband, Gerhard, only just survived the brutal conflict, but Gerhard's Nazi-supporting brother, Konrad, is still free and determined to regain power. As a dangerous game of cat and mouse develops, a plot against the couple begins to stir. One that will have ramifications throughout Europe....

Further afield in Kenya, the last outcrop of the colonial empire is feeling the stirrings of rebellion. As the situation becomes violent, and the Courtney family home is under threat, Leon Courtney finds himself caught between two powerful sides - and a battle for the freedom of a country.

Another Saffron Courtney adventure to devour

I was so thrilled to see this book available in my library.
A fantastic addition to the Saffron and Gerhart adventure with twists and turns at every corner. As you listening you think oh this must be again but once again another adventure commences.
Cannot recommended this book more highly

Brilliant storytelling

Great to see Wilbur Smith is still at the top of his game and the Saffron Courtney storyline continues to capture the imagination.

A great listen.

The descriptive writing transported me back to two wonderful sea and safari holidays my wife and I enjoyed many years ago. The historical storylines and insights into the beauty and foolishness of human behaviours , made this so much more than a breathtaking adventure story. Brilliantly narrated.

Another great tale from the master

Most enjoyable. Great work. Hope that this is not Wilbur Smith's last novel. This whole series has been difficult to put down.

Formulaic and weak

Oh dear! this story has more holes than a Swiss cheese, plus full of sycophantic characters with a gushing hero and heroine. Sean Barrett (the narrator) on the other hand was as good as the book was bad, I’m sure if he was reading a story about paint drying he would make it live, he was the highlight. Mr Smith stop being lazy, you can do better!

Not my favorite

Wilbur Smith is one of my favorite authors but three quarters if this book really dragged in and it was a struggle to stay engaged.
