Summary

A Paris, au cours de la sanglante année 1793, Marie-Antoinette et plusieurs membres de la famille royale sont détenus à la prison du Temple, dans l'attente d'un jugement qui, sans aucun doute, doit les mener à l'échafaud. Une poignée de fervents royalistes, dont le chevalier de Maison-Rouge, vont alors tenter l'impossible : faire évader la reine et la soustraire à son sort tragique. Dans cette perspective, ils vont s'assurer la complicité involontaire de Maurice Lindey, jeune officier de la garde nationale, en faction auprès de Marie-Antoinette.

Ce roman, paru en 1846 et rédigé avec la collaboration d'Auguste Maquet, s'inspire très librement de la vie d'Alexandre Gonsse de Rougeville. Sa tentative de transmettre à la reine un message caché dans une fleur est authentique. Avec Le chevalier de Maison-Rouge, Dumas nous gratifie d'un récit palpitant. Aux rebondissements d'une intrigue menée avec une parfaite maîtrise, s'ajoute l'atmosphère ténébreuse et fascinante de la Terreur. Un must d'aventures et de sentiments.
