Summary
For the second time in his short life, Teddy Clock has survived a massacre. Two years ago, he barely escaped when his entire family was slaughtered. Now, at 14, in a hideous echo of the past, Teddy is the lone survivor of his foster family’s mass murder. Orphaned once more, the traumatized teenager has nowhere to turn - until the Boston PD puts Detective Jane Rizzoli on the case. Determined to protect this young man, Jane discovers that what seemed like a coincidence is instead just one horrifying part of a relentless killer’s merciless mission.
Jane spirits Teddy to the exclusive Evensong boarding school, a sanctuary where young victims of violent crime learn the secrets and skills of survival in a dangerous world. But even behind locked gates, and surrounded by acres of sheltering Maine wilderness, Jane fears that Evensong’s mysterious benefactors aren’t the only ones watching. When strange blood-splattered dolls are found dangling from a tree, Jane knows that her instincts are dead on. And when she learns of Will Yablonski and Claire Ward, students whose tragic pasts bear a shocking resemblance to Teddy’s, it becomes chillingly clear that a circling predator has more than one victim in mind.
Joining forces with her trusted partner, medical examiner Maura Isles, Jane is determined to keep these orphans safe from harm. But an unspeakable secret dooms the children’s fate - unless Jane and Maura can finally put an end to an obsessed killer’s twisted quest.

Good but a bit contrived
I've enjoyed many of the books in this series and this was no exception. My slightly lower rating is because I felt the story was more implausible than some even though I accept that detective novels and thrillers have to be larger than life to sustain the reader. Nevertheless, if you like this author's books you'll still enjoy this one. I though the reader was fine.

Not to Tess Gerritsen's usual standard
Far fetched, confused and really not one of her best. It was sufficiently OK for me to listen to the end, but really I found it totally implausible and a bit 'daft' if I am honest!

If your a Rizzoli & Isles fan then this is for you
Would you consider the audio edition of Last to Die to be better than the print version?
I'm a huge fan of R&I so this audible book was for me, was unsure with how it started but enjoyed it all learned more bout Rat (Justin) from Ice Cold. much better hearing then reading leaves you free do other things
What did you like best about this story?
With out given to much away the major twist at the end.
Which character – as performed by Tanya Eby – was your favourite?
Moria Isles sounded and came across like the character on the tv show.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Definitely just never enough battery life if away from a power outlet
Any additional comments?
This will not be everyone's favourite book specially how it begins but don't write it off for what you hear in the first 10 minuets

Slightly disappointing but still worth a listen
Having thoroughly enjoyed all the previous books in the Rizzoli and Isles series, I was really looking forward to listening to the unabridged version of Last To Die. Whilst it kept me entertained, I felt that the plot line was a bit on the weak side and the fact that I'd worked out the twist long before it presented itself was rather disappointing. Also, at times the narrator sounded a little automated, it was as if the text was being read by a computer! Having said that, I didn't regret my purchase, it kept me entertained and will no doubt be downloading the next one in the series when it arrives.

Good but not up to usual standard
Have read all the previous Rizzoli and Isles but this one was probably my least favourite. Its an extremely far fetched storyline with gaping holes in it's credibilty. Cant detail as would give plot away but it seems not very well planned or thought out. Maybe its time for Maura Isles to find a decent man and Jane Rizzoli to hang up her badge!

.Mixed feelings
Not to be listened to as background. Needed concentration. Found the story slightly strange but did persist. Good. Performance from reader.

Twits and turns
You won't regret it.. Well written as always and don't usually like female readers, but this was really well narrated...
