About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

DCI Jim Daley is charged with murder - and everyone saw him do it - in the gripping new thriller from the bestselling author Denzil Meyrick.

In the middle of the night in Kinloch, the phone rings…

Detective Sergeant Brian Scott answers. It’s a message from his old friend and partner, DCI Jim Daley, which chills him to the bone:

‘She’s dead, Brian. I couldn’t take it anymore – I killed her! You have to help.’

Daley has been arrested for murder, and everyone saw him do it. The police have all the evidence they need to put him behind bars for life, but Scott still believes he’s innocent.

Is someone trying to frame him?

The search for answers takes Daley and Scott on a dark journey into their past, putting the people closest to them in immediate danger. And as the heartbreak takes its toll, Scott begins to wonder if this might be the end of the road.

Is it time to call last orders?

Another wonderful book

Loved everything about this book. A fitting and terrible end to the series. Wonderful humour and plot twists. And don’t get me started on the characters or I may start crying again.

Gripping and heartbreaking!

I employ everyone to start this amazing detective series at the beginning and not the end. This series has been one of the most enjoyable Iv had the pleasure to listen to and will always be grateful to Denzil for bringing alive the two forgettable duo Daley and Scott. Every story line of each adventure has been so captivating. It is with great sadness that I write this last review as a tribute to Denzil Myrick a truly great author who will definitely be missed by me. My condolences go out to his family, friends and respected work colleagues.

Brilliant as usual. I laughed throughout the performance and cried at the end listening to the Editor’s lovely tribute. R.I.P Denzil Meyrick.

The humour and the sadness

I loved this book from start to finish, as I have all DCI Daley books. The narration by David Monteath is brilliantly done and the storyline exciting and unpredictable.
I felt a bit emotional when I finished it, knowing no more would be written, it felt like I was saying goodbye to dear dear friends, Jim, Brian Scott and beloved Hamish.
Excellent work by an excellent author who has since passed away and will be missed. RIP Denzel Meyrick - I hope you are having a good dram of 'whisky in a small glass' x

A last rollercoaster with favourite characters

I have loved all of the Jim Daley books, enjoying the well rounded characters and vivid descriptions that Denzil Meyrick did so well. This book is a fitting end, both in title and content, with a focus on loss and love. Living near to where the books were written and often set, it is very sad that this fantastic author will no longer be able to make me laugh, cry and shout out loud at times, with his amazing work. Now I plan to go right back to Whisky from small glasses and enjoy the ride all over again.

Fitting finale for an outstanding author

I have loved each and everyone of the books in the DCI Daley series and will miss them dreadfully. Thank you Denzil for another fabulous instalment and I’m so sad it’s it last one. Rest easy Denzil, I’ll bring you down some flowers next time I’m hame.

Wonderful

As always I loved Denzil’s writing and it has inspired me to go listen to all the others in my library. Incredibly sad that we lost an amazing author and now Kinlock, Hamish, Daley and Scott forever.

A fitting end all round
