Love the characters
I have enjoyed this story immensley. I was enthralled by the social history it manages to convey while adding to and not diverting from story in anyway and was reminded of so much I had forgotten. I loved all the characters and felt so sad for them at times and happy when they were. Get the tissue ready at the end. Overall on balance although quite uncomfortable at times, I was left with a nice warm fuzzy feeling after reading it...

Just brilliant
One of the best books I've listened to. Great story, great characters and great writing. The narrator is as good as it gets.

A great story!
I read this book after it was gifted by a friend a few years ago and absolutely loved it. This audio version didn't disappoint! Jeff Harding's performance really brought the characters to life, and I laughed and cried just as much as I did the first time around.

Great Storytelling
I found this story ( and performance ) first class . Jeff Harding very rarely fails to deliver a good narration . The story was both funny and sad i found myself laughing at one part and then choking up on other parts . J Paul Henderson handles the Alzheimer disease storyline very sensitively as anyone who has dealt with or dealing with the disease will be able to relate to the problems that you have to deal with . I highly recommend it to anyone and look forward to the next book he writes .

Just Fabulous
This is a great book read by a fabulous narrator.
It is very funny and ironic with some genuine laugh out-loud moments. It is also sweet and kindly and, in spite of the main theme, a very uplifting book about the kindness of strangers. There are some wonderful characters throughout the book.
Jeff Harding is perfect for this book. His range of characters and his laconic, ironic delivery makes it. A marriage made in, well, wherever the best ones are made.
Please do give it a try. It is sooo much better than all the Nordic old folks books that are sloshing around and it deserves a wide audience.

Best book I’ve listened to on Audible
I really enjoyed this wonderful book. I am feeling sad that’s it’s finished. It made me laugh out loud, but also cry with sadness. Very cleverly written with humour and empathy, and with references to many interesting historical facts thrown in.
The narration was exceptional, and helped to make the whole listening experience one of pure enjoyment.
