Summary

Game loving shut-in Kazuma Sato's life as a young schoolboy in Japan abruptly comes to an early end...or at least it was supposed to. When he opens his eyes, though, he sees a beautiful goddess that offers him a once in an after-lifetime chance to be reborn in a parallel world. The catch is that the world is violent and threatened by a growing evil! Fortunately, he can choose any one thing to bring with him. So he chooses the goddess, Aqua! And so his adventure with his gorgeous companion begins—if he could just get enough money and food to survive, keep his goddess out of trouble, and avoid grabbing the attention of the Demon King's army!

STEAL!

Overall, I enjoyed this light novel and having it read to me is pretty cool as I enjoy hearing the character's voices.
The performance is outstanding and I hope this continues throughout the series.

One problem

There's an issue when having a story that has multiple characters with distinct personalities in them, unless you're doing a full on audio drama with many voices comprising characters, you need people who can do clearly different voices for their characters. Those who are fans of Konosuba will know the basic plotline shown here and won't have that big an issue but those who come into this without a clue are going to be flummoxed when Aqua sounds like Megumin who sounds like Chris who sounds like Darkness or Kazuma who sounds like any of the males in the series.

I'm not decrying the reading, it's as all American Voice Acting is 'clear and well read' with no mouth sounds or noises, it's well done and decent. It's just neither Mr Pantoja or Ms Mendez have a vocal range that can sustain a cast of dozens.

Then theres some of the changes to terms used. Why you'd included Hikki-NEET in this but remove Loli is baffling to me when you use jailbait. It seems a formless aesthetic change that makes no sense.

And the biggest problem, 'The Crimson Magic Clan'
I'm sorry but NO, they're the Crimson Demons' (紅魔族 or Kurenai Mazoku) and the reason for that is that they are ALL Chuuninbyou and think the name 'Crimson Demon' sounds cool as all hell. They don't care that others look at them funny when they call themselves demons to fight the Devil King, they're awesome at magic and love being their own way. Why you'd choose this when you include something as insanely difficult to understand as Hikkikimori and NEET with the portmanteau Hikki-NEET.

Weebs understand that, we know the jokes, but newcomers are going to have a massive hill to climb for that, but you remove references to Megumins Chuunin lifestyle or her over the top laughing?

I have worries about this but will see it through with a second volume.

hilarious

I really enjoyed this audiobook, I was laughing from beginning to end the performance of Erica Mendez and Arnie Pantoja was great and I hope to hear them with volume 2 onwards . Great job and a really funny series , dunno what other reviews mean I didn't get confused at all with the voices when Erica is doing Megumin lines it's her Megumin voice obviously and when it's aqua or darkness or any other female voice they are still distinct enough to tell the difference between them so again dunno why others feel confused

Great start

Enjoyed it, will be buying the next one! I echo the previous review however, currently most of the voices sound the same which causes confusion. The male voices not so much (might just be due to less male characters in the series, although the major voice near the end was distinct). All the female characters sound the same though, which is confusing when it's most of the cast.

Great story and performance with some caviats

This story is fantastisch. I am also very haalt yen press decided to devide character voices between two voice actors. Please continue to do this and while your at it please also do this die other audiobooks such as sword art online. However I do think this audiobook would benafit from either more voice actors to voice the characters or more guidence to ensure that al characters are easily destinguishable. Especially darknes and Aqua can sounds very similar. This is something to work on.

But besides this. I argus this is the best yen audio book to date. With multiple characters talking in unison being handled briliantlt. And the nation is top notch aha hendled work a lot of care. I can't wait to listen to book 2.
