Summary
The stunning conclusion of a worldwide phenomenon - from the boldly original author of Captive Prince and Prince's Gambit.
His identity now revealed, Damen must face his master, Prince Laurent, as Damianos of Akielos, the man Laurent has sworn to kill. On the brink of a momentous battle, the future of both their countries hangs in the balance. In the south, Kastor's forces are massing. In the north, the Regent's armies are mobilizing for war. Damen's only hope of reclaiming his throne is to fight together with Laurent against their usurpers. Forced into an uneasy alliance, the two princes journey deep into Akielos, where they face their most dangerous opposition yet. But even if the fragile trust they have built survives the revelation of Damen's identity, can it stand against the Regents final, deadly play for the throne?

Magnificent
A wonderful end to a fantastic trilogy. C. S. Pacat’s writing is mesmerising and so memorable. These books, Damen and Laurent will stay with me and for that I am grateful. P. S. For those of you like me, who is sometimes an impatient reader, audio edition narrated beautifully by Stephen Bel Davies is a perfect way to slow down and enjoy the story and the stunning writing. Highly recommended as an audio book.

Pacat's writing and Stephen Bel D - perfect
Loved the series - relieved that I only discovered them once all were published! It is an object lesson in frustration tolerance. I have noticed some criticism of some of the themes in the books. Other than the relative acceptance of m/m pairings, I did not read anything in this 'fantasy' which has not happened within many cultures held in high regard, particularly in the West within the last 150 years or so. Some may be titillated by the non-consensual aggressions/transgressions in the book; that is for individual readers to consider and not to assume how others experience them. I did not find these sections anything other than horrorific, and yet necessary, given the essential dynamics. I identified with many of the characters, whether good, bad, or in-between. A rare and very welcome occurrence for me. Thank you for the books C.S.Pacat. At a somewhat difficult time in my life they have been greatly validating for me, and after several years have brought about my falling back in love with love. Stephen Bel Davies was a perfect voice actor for me . . . at 90% speed his Laurent was an admixture of Bette, Marilyn, with a large measure of husky Lauren Becall! Changed my life x

A brilliant ending to a brilliant story.
C.S. Pacat is my new favorite writer. I absolutely adore this trilogy. Furthermore, Juilliard educated Stephen Bel Davies is one of the best narrators Audible has to offer.
You haven’t lived until you’ve heard SBD say “F@$& Me”
We all want to Stephen. We do
This is a MM romance/ hate to love relationship at its best.
An absolute masterpiece.
I was never bored, the pacing was perfect from beginning to end.
I was enthralled with the political intrigue, well written action sequences, intoxicating erotica , and dynamic characters with a love so special and pure that it made my heart flutter. It was a satisfying ending that I found myself screaming out loud multiple times and my eyes filled with tears ;)

loved the series .....narrator wasnt top pic tho!
Where does Kings Rising rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's pretty low-scale on the erotica so depending if I'm listening for that intent or more for an involved storyline...though one of my favorite series from my Kindle library, while I didn't dislike the narrator it was not the voice I had imagined for either main character....I had been hoping for more like Gary Furlong from As You Wish.... honestly it was only my love of the series that had me listening despite the disconnect I found with the narrator. I had hoped it would be a voice I found attractive enough to have me backtracking and listening through the dense first and second novels.....
What other book might you compare Kings Rising to and why?
There's not too many in the m/m genre I think it can compare to really, the relationship between the two mc's reminds me of Honour by A.F. Henley, in that it is told from the pov of the "servant" who is more obv enamored of his prince then the prince's complex combo of personal and political allow, and causing him to be less able to easily warm to. I felt like the storyline was more comparable in complexity, not necessarily with regards to topic, to Harper Fox's Last Line series, especially with the idea that reading later on divulges certain knowledge or past connections that were surprising and required you to think back on the first book in reflection of this newly disclosed info and how it might expand your understanding of the complex relationships and storylines.
Any additional comments?
The third one dedicates the majority of their actual relationship coming to fruition and finally seeing some of the more intimate, personable side of Laurent, so I enjoyed that being explored. I do wish a diff narrator choice had been made ....just a matter of personal taste, the narrator didn't do a poor job... but I'd have been more anxious to go back and have the first two books on audio.

This series is amazing! Highly recommended!
TW: rape, incest, pedophilia
The first book is very uncomfortable to read because of all the allusions to rape and graphic sexual scenes. They do not however romanticize it and instead make the discomfort of the scenes palpable. The first book also does an amazing job of setting up the second and third. The story is deep and rich and heartfelt, with more twists and reveals than can be counted. The characters drive this story amazingly and the blossoming romance is handled superbly. This series is the Audible equivalent of an absolute page turner from start to finish!
