Summary

Almost Boyfriend Material

Charley Hughes loves Scar. He doesn’t give a damn that they’re bikers; he wants a real relationship with Scar, in every sense of the word. Their romance didn’t have a balanced beginning since they met in prison. Now that they’re both out and established in the world, all Charley wants is for Scar to do three things: Love him, stay out of jail, and listen when Charley speaks. Scar has a lot of trouble with that last request—especially when they’re having a fight.

Unable to Compromise

Colton “Scar” Hebb has no idea how to solve a disagreement in any way that requires words. Prison toughened him up, maybe too much. Scar tries something he’s not ready for with Charley, then clams up afterward, which causes pain for both men.

Life Beyond Prison

Scar won’t talk about what is bothering him, and Charley is frustrated and worried. If Scar can’t learn to move past the man he had to be to stay safe behind bars, he might lose his life with Charley and all the new experiences he wants to share with him. Luckily they’re in the Kings of Men MC, and their biker brothers see the trouble they’re in. With a little good advice from King, chances are things will work out—assuming Scar can get comfortable opening up to Charley.

Surprisingly sweet and tender

Scar and Charley are absolutely beautiful together.
Charley knows what he wants and that Scar.
Unfortunately for Charley, Scar is not the best at communicating and is terrified of his feelings for him.
This almost leads to a disastrous situation but thankfully Scar learns to confide in Charley and grows emotionally by leaps and bounds.
I enjoyed getting to see some of the others in the MC again and of course there is always a humorous thread running throughout that had me laughing out loud.
Andrew Ladd did a wonderful job narrating and bringing the story to life.

Yass

This is a story that I really enjoy. Scar and Charlie are 2 or my favourite guys in the Kings of Men MC. It took me a while to get used to the narrator, it was mainly Scar’s voice that took a bit of getting used to. I really enjoyed the added ‘effects’ like the phone ringing or texting etc. Honestly, these guys make me laugh, just s bunch of guys being dudes 😂

Try love conquers big manly egos:)

Oddly enough this a sweet biker book- in the world of New Gothenburg. A lot of these books are set in a rough environment - which usually also is the case for King’s MC. Scar is big and burly and a man’s man and is suddenly faced with some decisions about what that entails, and how his relationship with Fish is going to grow. It’s a great book with lots of humor, true feelings and interesting storyline.

Back to New Gothenburg...

A great companion novella for more of King's men although I did feel like I was behind or missing something in the story, like I'd come in part way through.
Narration was good in terms of performance, voices and tones but there were weird "add in" kissing sound effects that for me were a little off putting and jarring in the flow of the story. There were also climax sound effects which I felt weren't needed, it's better to leave things to the imagination... although I did like Scar's gravely voice 😜

King's Ex-Cons

I enjoyed this short about Scar and Charley. We get to see the depth of their love and how they deal with issues in their lives. The two are good together and must learn how to communicate and find a way to give each other what they need. There is so much more to these men than what they show the world. I enjoyed seeing the men deal with their emotions and how it effects their relationship. This is a nice quick look into Scar and Charley’s personal life. Narrator Andrew Ladd does a nice job of bringing this book to life, but I could have done without the sound effects.

Scar and Charley

I loved revisiting Scar and Charley. I’ve read the original several times and it’s always great to catch up with favorite characters to see how life has changed for them. I appreciated how these two had to learn to communicate with each other in order for their relationship to grow. Here’s hoping the lessons learned stick

loved it

I loved this book. Andrew Ladd's voice really brings this story to life. Charley really love Scar and will do anything for him. Charley wants Scar to love him, stay out of trouble and jail, and listen when he talks. When Scar tries something new and something he is not ready for with Charley. Scar bolts and refuses to talk about what scared him. Will Scar let fear hold him back or will he open up to Charley and let him know how he feels.

King’s Ex-Cons

Loved the storyline as it should be for a New Gothenburg book. The narration? Not so much, but then I’m super picky about voices, so it’s probably just me.

Definitely recommend for the story for sure and would recommend the audiobook if you like the narrator’s voice.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Another great book!

I loved this book when I read it the first time and listening to it now was another fantastic journey! Like with any narrator, it took me a little time to get used to him, but he did not disappoint. Will give another listen for sure!

Fun story

This is a short story. Pretty entertaining about a lack of communication. Charley wants Scar. That is his center of attention and when given an opportunity to be a first for Scar, he is more than willing.
Scar isn’t quite so open. He has many issues communicating with Charley. He wants to be with him but there are things Scar is uncomfortable to admit. The dance these two do is entertaining since they are bikers. I enjoyed the mental picture of these two working their problems out. I also feel Andrew Ladd’s narration added to the fact that it was bikers going through this.

Great Follow-Up

This is a follow-up to King's Criminals and was awesome! It was nice to see things left from their book addressed in this one and it just gave their relationship a much more solid HEA. Definitely worth a read for fans of the series!

illustrates how important it is for relationships

Review of audiobook
King's Ex-Cons
By: Ki Brightly, M.D. Gregory
Narrated by: Andrew Ladd
Series: The Kings of Men MC
Length: 2 hrs and 54 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release date: 09-07-22

King's Ex-Cons is the ninth book in The Kings of Men MC series by Ki Brighty and M.D. Gregory. It focuses on the relationship between Charley Hughes and Colton “Scar” Hebb, characters introduced in the 3rd book of the series. They met while in prison and formed a relationship.

After several years, cracks have appeared but Scar seems oblivious. Scar is very comfortable, comfortable enough that he does not truly listen to Charley anymore. When Charley raises a problem, Scar tries to use sex to distract Charley and not, as in never, discuss what is bothering Charley. It works until the issue Charley wants to talk about is sex. The authors do an excellent job of showing what a relationship looks like when one partner takes the other for granted.

The narrator, Andrew Ladd, really gave me problems. His voices for Charley and Scar are good. His secondary characters, not so much. Scar's mom and McKenzie a good examples of this. The narrator's sound effects took me out of the story. Around 5 mins into chapter 7, there is a kissing scene and the sound effects are unsexy, at least to me.

I really like the story because it illustrates how important it is for relationships to be open to communication as well as balanced in power. I will try another narration by Andrew Ladd as it may have just been this book that threw me off.

I received a copy of King's Ex-Cons from the author. I wrote an honest review.

Scar and Fish

This is a quick listen, catching up with Colton (Scar) and Charley (Fish). We catch up with the men on the outside and take a look at what they are doing, living together and trying to make their lives work whilst working different shifts. Beautifully written and narrated

Short but good

A short story about Scar and Charley and will it ever happen. Even though they are together , there is still growing to be done especially Scar and his ideas about it. Charley wants something from Scar but can Scar give. This was short but good.
