Summary
This is the highly anticipated new novel from New York Times number one best-selling author of Red Queen.
Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven continues weaving his web in an attempt to maintain control over his country - and his prisoner.
As Mare remains trapped in the palace, the remnants of the Red Rebellion continue organizing and expanding. As they prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows, Cal - the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare's heart - will stop at nothing to bring her back.
In this breathless new novel from the best-selling author of the Red Queen series, blood will turn on blood, and allegiances will be tested on every side. If the Lightning Girl's spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?
Read by Amanda Dolan, Adenrele Ojo and Erin Spencer.

Some mixed feelings on this one
Well I have to say that was an eventful book in this series. I did see the change with house somos coming and guessed that somehow Mare and Cal wouldn’t get their HEA so easily but I still found myself very annoyed when his grandmother announced her plan for the kingdoms to reunite and Cal to not chose Mare like he promised I am hoping he redeems himself in the next book or I’ll be really disappointed. Looking forward to book 4 and what happens next. Likes the narrators for Mare and Eve but thought the narrator for Cam made her sound a lot older than 15 years old and didn’t suit.

A good listen
I love this series, but I just couldn’t get on with the actress playing Cameron. I mean … she’s already a tough character with her moral superiority complex, but the actress just didn’t suit at all.

My favourite book in the series
A great story for fans of the series and I love the narrator Amanda Dolan as Mare. As much as the voice of Cameron was lovely I didn't think it suits 15yr old slum born Cameron.

New voices
The addition of different points of view works well for the story. As always the different narrators take the characterisation to slightly different places, but I think that adds rather than detracts in this case.

Love Amanda Dolan. Didn't need the others
I know this book was split into more than one characters perspective however, every time the person who narrated for Cameron it just made me want to skip! So droll and drawn out no wonder the book is 14hrs long compared to others in the series averaging at 9hrs!
Other than that great story and much praise for Amanda who narrates for mare (and does great accents to let you know who's speaking) and with great emotion and excitement, whoop. Can't wait for the next book

wonderfully named
the continued saga is a wonderful and twisting narrative. characters are compelling. The change in the way the story is told has been jarring but splitting it between the 3 main driving characters does work well.

Dull
honestly the first two thirds of this book are a chore, next to nothing happens and it's incredibly dull. it ends well but I don't think that it really makes up from the first two thirds slog

Improved so much since the first one
When I first listened to Red Queen I was 50/50 on the story but decided to keep listening to see where it ended up and honestly, I went from sorta hate listening to adoring this series. The acting, pace and characterisation improved ten fold, each character felt like new world views not just the same internal chatter inside a new skin like some books have. I’m so glad I was able to continue on with the series and wish I have the next one to devour.
