Nooo!

I've been so excited waiting for the release date of a favourite author's new book. I can't comment on it's content until I have bought it again to read myself. Five minutes in and I can't listen anymore. Wasted my money. I must remember to sample the narrator in future!

Ok

Jane F writing is so engaging. I always look forward to here books because they are an easy listen. Similar template to her last books but found this better that her last book “Worst Idea Ever”
It didn’t blow me away tbh!
The narrator’s voice took a while to get used to.

Poor narration

Typical Jane Fallon revenge story, not as much of a page-turner as some of her others. However what really spoils this is the narration, which is surprising from a professional actor like Tamzin Outhwaite. It is read rather than performed, some of the meaning is lost due to emphasis being placed on the wrong words, and altogether it sounds like a half-hearted or lazy attempt at reading aloud. Disappointing, on the whole.

The Narration takes a moment to settle

I love Jane Fallon’s books, some of her most recent works have helped me through hours of work and kept me company. Just Got Real is no exception. Wonderful story, a tale of girl power and women supporting women. A real feel good listen. Tamzin Outhwaites narration took me a moment to adjust to. I’m so used to chick lit being read by the girl next door voice that it did, strangely, almost put me off. Once I’d processed the new style of voice it was an easy listen and one finished very quickly. Well done Jane, another wonderful piece of work.

disappointing

I waited months for this book and was quite disappointed when I listened to it. The storyline was OK, a bit predictable but had a couple of good twists, nothing earth shattering though. My main issue was the narrator. For some reason she didn't differentiate her voice at all between the characters. She literally just read the story. This made it hard to really engage with the characters and plot as you have no idea who's talking! It just came over as a bit of a drone. Such a shame.

Annoying narration

I love Jane Fallon’s books so was really looking forward to this one. It was good, though not her best. The narration however, was really not good and almost ruined the book for me. The narrator is a good actress but sadly that does not make her a good book reader. Her phrasing and emphasis were all over the place, making nonsense of some sentences, and her repeated noisy inbreaths were very off putting. She also made no apparent effort to differentiate between the different characters speaking, using the same voice for all of them. It felt like she either didn’t understand or possibly care about what she was reading, and just wanted to get through it as fast as possible. Sadly this detracted hugely from my enjoyment of this book.
Listening to this did one thing however - it made me appreciate the vast majority of narrators out there, far less famous than this one, but so much more skilled in reading.

Very predictable

I usually like Jane Fallon books as a little light escapism. This one however was really, painfully, predictable in places. Twists were alluded to so obviously that it was frustrating at points. I also found that the last hour or so of the story was seemingly unnecessary, just a very elongated closure to it all.

Fantastic as always

Absolutely love Jane Fallon’s writing. Just Got Real is up there with the best.
Although I like Tamzin Outhwaite I have to admit I wasn’t a huge fan of her narration in this and had to restart it several times as she wasn’t drawing me in initially.
Glad I persevered though as it’s an excellent book.
Can’t wait for the next one Jane!

A Good Story 3 ⭐⭐⭐

A good Listen but similar to the last book of hers as in it being about revenge.
I was waiting for a better end to be honest. The storyline about online dating and scamming is very relevant in reality.

I thought Tamzin Outhwaite did a great job at narrating but the listening speed had to be turnt up! I would still recommend listening too this book.

Loved This!

Well written, although it took me a while to familiarise myself with the narrator's style. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. It was interesting, deep and also light hearted - it had the right balance.

Enjoyable as always

Very basic plot of internet dating, cheating, revenge and friendships but a story that keeps you interested with really likeable characters and quality writing as always from JF
and wonderful narration.
