About this listen
Danger throws them together. Attraction keeps them from parting....
Having lost her best friend, Courtney Davies lives every day like it’s her last, because if life has taught her anything, it’s that some are cut far too short without warning. So when sexy former soldier Jason moves to Cradle Mountain, she shouldn't hesitate to express her immediate interest. Problem is, anytime she gets near the man, she inexplicably freezes, losing every coherent thought in her head.
Jason Porter has served his country, studied at one of the country’s most prestigious schools, and made groundbreaking strides in pharmaceutical science, but it was his time in captivity that changed him most. In irrevocable ways, both physically and mentally. Slowly, he’s moving on, running Blue Halo Security with his team in Cradle Mountain, Idaho—where one of the best perks of the small town is coffee shop owner Courtney. She’s friendly, spirited, vibrant—everything he needs in his life. Too bad he seems to scare her senseless.
When Courtney wins an award, bringing with it media attention, she hopes it’s the break her shop has been waiting for. Instead, strange things start happening. Unexpected things. Dangerous things. It’s soon clear the award has put her in a spotlight for all the wrong reasons. And the one person she can trust? The very man who leaves her tongue, her body, and her heart tied in knots.

Not what you might expect
The best friend and the brother…but not the same old trope we have seen before. The inimitable Courtney is the best friend of Grace from the first book in the series (Logan in case you aren’t keeping up with the programme here..) and Jason is the brother of Sage who is with Mason from the Project Arma Originals (again….if you don’t know this where have you been!!!) Honestly this book does read well on its own but you will definitely appreciate it more if you read Logan first and if you read all the original series too then you’ll truly be up to date and well versed in all things Arma related. .
Jason is all the things you want in a boyfriend, totally see’s Courtney and understands her, appreciates her quirkiness and is willing to put in the time and effort to let her get comfortable around him.
Courtney has all the feels for Jason but what she perceives as his perfection puts her in a tizz and turns her into a blubbering clumsy mess in his presence, I love how this was portrayed in the book. Luckily a few steamy kisses get her over this and onwards we go.
Something from Courtney’s past come back in her life, without her truly understanding why and yet she finds herself in danger. Something the Arma boys take personally and jump in to protect their favourite barista. Obviously this may or may not also play into Jason’s plans to get closer to Courtney also.
I loved the storyline here, though there were elements of it I had guessed quite early, there were lots of elements that were more of a surprise to me right up to the end. The suspense and danger events of this story were well intertwined with the budding and developing romance and even the angst scenes were very in the moment and relevant. The friendships amongst all the characters were true, especially between the Arma crew. A real brotherhood feel, and Grace and Courtney’s friendship was strongly relatable.
Troy Duran is one of my top male narrators and I loved him for Jason and thought he brought out the character really well. Addison Barnes also does a great job with the quirky Courtney especially bringing out her left over fears from what happened in Logan’s book.
I liked how the Grace betrayal storyline found more room here, and was brought to a nice conclusion for the wider group. Willow found more of a voice here too which was nice to see and whilst I have my suspicions about her and Blake’s problems it will be great to see how this develops in the next book.

An excellent and exciting romance
I am really loving this new team! Courtney and Jason are a wonderful couple and there are some really amusing moments when they are first getting together. The story has romance, an exciting plot and great characters. The story is enhanced by the expert dual narration by two talented performers. I am really enjoying rediscovering this excellent series in a new format
