About this listen

Where winning means survival...

According to legend, I’m supposed to be some kind of all-powerful DragonGod - gifted with the magic of gods. Instead, I’m a dud. In fact, I'm currently failing out of the Undercover Protectorate’s magical institute.

It's the supernatural version of Scotland Yard, and I’ve got one chance left to earn my place here. To do so, I have to compete in a deadly race across the world. In order to win, I need to survive. And I’ll need the help of a sexy and powerful shifter mage named Lachlan Munroe.

When we figure out that the race is rigged, Lachlan and I must rely on each other to make it through. But will I be able to learn enough magic to save my life?

Institute of Magic is a fast-paced, urban, fantasy adventure starring a kick-butt heroine, a powerful hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.

Magical Listen!

This is such a fun listen and the narration was pure magical. Laurel Schroeder is a genius at accents and different voices for the numerous characters. This story is outside my typical listening genre, yet it pulled me in. I was enthralled with Lachlan, Ana and the 3 cats of catastrophe (Muffin, Princess Snowflake III, & Bojangles).
The imagery in this story was wonderful. I loved how actual places and historical events were wove into the story. This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. I will definitely listen to more books by Linsey Hall and Laurel Schroeder.

Rushed and poor narration.

I really struggled with the narration for this. The intonation was exactly the same on every sentence, giving no atmosphere or drama to the scenes at all. Whether that be a fight scene, love scene or just an explanation. It all sounded the same, like a list of sentences.

The story was very rushed and gave absolutely no character development outside of the three sisters. Which is a shame because I think the premise for the story has huge potential. It just could have done with more depth.

Unfortunately, I would not listen to this again or go for any of the others in the series.
