Summary

And here I am. Totally alone in a cell with a convicted sex offender who is free to do what he wants. There is no officer. No handcuffs. No radio. Only the man across the desk and me. He looks more petrified than I do.

HMP Graymoor. One of the UK’s most notorious prisons. Home to nearly 800 murderers, rapists and child molesters.

Reporting for her first shift inside is Rebecca: twenty-two, newly graduated—and about to sit down with some of the country’s most dangerous criminals.

In this gripping, hard-hitting memoir, forensic psychologist Dr Rebecca Myers revisits her time in the ‘Hot Seat’ with Graymoor’s infamous inmates—who might not be as different to us as we think.

This is as close as we can get to knowing what really goes on inside the damaged minds behinds bars.

Riveting

Narrated very well on a difficult subject. Thought provoking. Not everyone could do this job & have empathy for the offenders, however I agree with Dr Myers, poor parenting is responsible for a lot of sexual offending.

In depth view

A really good appreciation of the other side of sex offending without being overly graphic or condoning what the perpetrators did. I did specifically like how different ‘voices’ were used to convey each criminal’s stories.

Fascinating

Fascinating insight into a very challenging but essential career. Honest, vulnerable, compassionate, and read perfectly to match the tone in which it was written.

good book

This gives a great insight into the SOTP programme from the facilitators point of view, which seems to be a very honest one.

Really enjoyed this book. Loads of interesting insights and honesty from the author. Very interesting perspective on the ‘monsters’ of our society, plus her own experiences
