About this listen
When the hunter becomes the hunted....
DI Amy Winter faces her toughest case yet as a serial killer couple kidnap and hunt their prey. After capture, the victims are released from an unknown location each day. But freedom does not come easily, as the victim’s injuries become more severe, and if they haven’t escaped by day four, they won’t live to see the fifth.
At five months pregnant, Amy is feeling backed into a corner as the father of her child, DCI Donovan, urges her to share the news. But Amy doesn’t want to be treated differently by her team, much less lose their respect when they discover she’s in a relationship with her DCI. When a call comes in from the killer asking to meet Amy, Donovan intercepts and sends a decoy in her place. But while officers are concentrating on the decoy, Amy is kidnapped from outside her home. She is the next victim, and the countdown begins.
After being bundled into the back of a van and driven to a desolate woodland, Amy’s heart sinks in her chest as she realizes the killers have no intention of playing fair.
DCI Donovan is distraught as he discovers Amy is missing. When his team receives a taunting video, he is left in no doubt of the danger Amy and his unborn child are in. He must pull himself together to hunt the killer down. But with no clues and no location, there is only one person with intimate knowledge of how a killer’s mind works.
Enter Lillian Grimes, Amy’s serial killer mother. But can he persuade her to help him in time?
As the days progress, Amy’s injuries grow more severe, and her team are locked in a desperate race against time.
Can be listened to as a stand-alone. A compulsive thriller that will have your heart hammering in your chest and leave you absolutely breathless when you discover the shocking final twist. If you’re a fan of Angela Marsons, Mel Sherratt, LJ Ross, and Rachel McLean, you’ll love In Cold Blood.

Brilliant,knuckle gripping ,heart racing!
I read this book twice, but listening to the audio and the narrator was absolutely fabulous. The book always sounds better. When someone else reads it to you. The narrator did a fabulous job of presenting caroline Mitchells work which is totally incredible. I really appreciated the way the narrator used different voices for different characters, and they fit perfectly!
I struggle with books that are not large print, so this is perfect to be able to listen to one of my favourite authors work.
This was a great listen, full of action and emotion.
Thank you.

Fast paced,
No point going over the gist of the story as it's outlined in the synopsis.
I'm surprised no one has remarked on the fact that Amy Winter's serial killer mother ( Lillian Grimes, who had been imprisoned for the evil crimes she committed with husband Jack (now deceased) isn't still locked up.
Amy and her brother and sisters witnessed bodies buried in the basement and "sex parties"; they had to mostly fend for themselves and went hungry. Despite all that their vile mother is free and some of Amy's siblings still keep in touch with her - unbelievable !!!

Great finale
Have enjoyed this series. Found this one a harder listen but liked all the conclusions that it came to in end. Assume it’s the last?
Different narrator took some getting used to.

Excellent!
One of the very best crime series I have read, with well-crafted writing, plots and characters, gripping but not too gruesome!
Kim Breton’s narration of this fifth book in the series is very good but the Elizabeth Knowelden’s narration of the first four is outstanding.
Looking forward to more of Amy Winter but, in the meantime, I’ll be trying out other Caroline Mitchell audiobooks.
