Summary

Get hooked on Heck: the maverick detective who knows no boundaries. A grisly whodunit you won't be able to put down, perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride and TV series Luther.

Heck needs to watch his back. Because someone's watching him... Across the south of England, a series of bizarre but fatal accidents are taking place. So when a local businessman survives a near-drowning but is found burnt alive in his car just weeks later, DS Mark 'Heck' Heckenburg is brought in to investigate.

Soon it appears that other recent deaths might be linked: two thieves that were bitten to death by poisonous spiders, and a driver impaled through the chest with scaffolding.

Accidents do happen but as the body count rises it's clear that something far more sinister is at play, and it's coming for Heck too....

Critic reviews

"Clever and well written with some bizarre murders and masses going on, it's an excellent series." ( The Bookseller)

Heck at his ultimate best.

Paul Finch just goes from better to better with every book in the series. Heck just seems to slot into a gap left by many other fictional detectives and is a ' one off ' when it comes to solving oddball crimes, difinitely thinking way out of the box to solve the most heinous of crimes.
Cannot wait for the next Heck to be published. A definitive must for all fans of Peter James, Mark Billingham, wtc.

Enjoyable and convoluted

The convoluted plot leads Heck through much of the home counties chasing the posibility that a comedy duo is murdering people at random. In this effort he has to endure local CID help from DC Gail Honeyford. The personality clashes work well while they sort out if they are tackeling a crime or not. The conclusion stretches credibility but in the end works nicely. There may be a few minor plot weaknesses but this is a fun crime novel with lots of imaginative gore.

Good exciting listen

I could not stop listening to this my first Heck book - I loved it. The twists and turns and the detective work were great. Love Paul Thornley as a reader. Definitely a good listen - just try to get the series in the right order.

Another exciting Paul Finch

What goes on in Mr Finch's head to be able to write such twisting & turning exciting novels?! Yet another great book! On to the next.

Riveting and nicely 'twisted' thriller!

What made the experience of listening to Hunted the most enjoyable?

Great narration of a really convoluted murder.

What other book might you compare Hunted to, and why?

None. Haven't read any like this before!

Have you listened to any of Paul Thornley’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I don't think so. His narration really enhances the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

'Moved' isn't quite the right word!!! There is a moment in the plot that took me by surprise!

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to read some more by this author and I hope they have the same characters.

Just as gripping as all other in he series

I have listened to the full series to date and the only disappointment I experienced upon listening to this one was that it's the last in the series for now at least. Let's hope Paul Finch extends the DS heck series further. An amazing listen well narrated and great story

Great narration

Really enjoyed the story and delivery. Very good narration makes this book come alive. Want to listen to more 'Heck' but the only others are in German
