Summary

Uncover the evidence-based science to slowing the effects of aging, from the New York Times bestselling author of the How Not to Die series.

This audio edition is captivatingly read by the author, Michael Greger MD.

What if diet could regulate every one of the most promising strategies for combating the effects of aging? That is just what Dr Michael Greger, founder of NutritionFacts.org, found when he dove into the top peer-reviewed anti-aging medical research. It turns out we don’t need Big Pharma to keep us feeling young – we already have the tools. In How Not to Age, the internationally renowned physician and nutritionist breaks down the science of aging and chronic illness and explains how to help avoid the diseases most commonly encountered in our journeys through life.

Discover the eleven pathways for ageing and how to disrupt each of them. Find out how to bring more of the foods high in compounds that boost natural processes – mushrooms, tempeh, onions, apples and kale – proven to clear problems like inflammation and other age related diseases into your diet. Inspired by the dietary and lifestyle patterns of centenarians and residents of global ‘blue zone’ regions where people live the longest, Dr Greger presents simple, accessible, and evidence-based methods to preserve the body functions that keep you feeling youthful, both physically and mentally. Getting older does not have to mean getting sicker.

Brimming with expertise and actionable takeaways, How Not to Age lays out practical strategies for achieving ultimate longevity.

All doctors should study this

As others have said, it took me an hour to get used to Dr Greger’s unique voice. But I am from the UK. His enthusiasm is genuine and I really got into the listen, all 27 hours of it.

The information in this book is stunningly helpful. It is quite scientific, so those without a scientific mind may struggle a little. However, he links everything to his website with easy to digest videos.

I am a GP, and none of this type of science is taught to doctors in training. But nutrition and emotional learning is key to overall health and disease prevention. This book has provided me with a huge amount of vital information I have already started passing on to my patients.

Depth of research

Difficult to hear some of his words but very informative and I liked his voice. Definitely worth listening to.

Outstanding Effort

I always listen to Dr Gregers books with a smile on my face. Not only is he naturally entertaining, particularly useful when reading such potentially dry content, his book is jam packed full of eye opening data. I now hope to live a good 10 years longer.

Not ideal for audiobook format, but valuable info amongst technical jargon.

This book has so many references to video URLs for extra info. Audiobooks in general are great for listening on the move, but if you want to understand the extra content via these videos then you'd need to stop constantly. It does not lend itself well to audio.

The technical terminology also makes this book difficult to follow - you really need to pay close attention.

The advice is as expected from a Dr G book - eat whole foods plant based. The book helps explain the 'why' behind well-known recommendations e.g. eat an apple a day. It also recommends specific foods containing chemicals that effect aging mechanisms, including novel recommendations e.g. wheat germ. For me, the practical value of the book lies in these novel recommendations.

If you are new to Dr G I would start with How Not to Die before reading this book.

Informative and entertaining book of your health

I have read all of Gregor’s books and he did not disappoint this time either. This was the first time that I did not read but listen to his work and in his presentation there was an added layer to the researches and statements. A great way to start your health journey if you haven’t started it yet! 100% recommend this book.

Sensationally Diligent - As Always

Dr Gregor deep dives into the intricacies of aging well and slowing down decline in his usual diligent and objective way - he wraps up complex science in an accessible and often humourous manner. He is so personable a narrator that it feels like you're being informed over dinner with a friend. Thank you for the live changing, live enhancing work you do. A truly selfless individual.
