Summary

As the Nazis bring Denmark to its knees, a resistance forms – and make a discovery that could turn the tide of war. From the master storyteller Ken Follett, Hornet Flight is a startling thriller set amidst the Danish Resistance of the Second World War.

Europe in Darkness

1941. The Nazis have Denmark in their vice-like grip, their malign presence corroding everything its inhabitants hold dear. Even the police betray their countrymen and work with the Gestapo to hunt down spies.

A Glimmer of Hope

In this hostile climate the Danish resistance discover a secret that could change the course of the war – proof of an advanced German radar installation that is causing catastrophic losses to Allied planes bringing the fight to Germany.

A Dangerous Mission

The resistance must get the information to the British and will have only one chance, using a near-derelict Hornet Moth bi-plane mouldering away in a church. If they succeed the balance of the war will be tipped in the Allies’ favour but failure will see them killed...

A gripping story

Although after some of Ken Follett's books this seemed quite a brief novel, it was never the less a gripping story if rather predictable.
I m always astounded by the author's knowledge of the era about which he writes and this book was not exception and it brought to life an occupied country in WW2 which is little talked about these days

FIrst class story-telling

On the strength of how much I enjoyed, and admired, the author's Century Trilogy I gave this book a try. It's a terrific story that kept me gripped throughout. The characters are so well-drawn I felt I knew them and cared about their fate. The story maintains momentum and never flags, even when there are digressions about such things as how to fly a Hornet Moth aircraft. I was reminded of Frederick Forsyth's novels in the way that a fast-paced and thrilling spy-story story is meshed with precise historical and technical details that makes it all seem authentic.
Highly recommended.
The narrator is excellent.

Never really got my attention

I can't say this is a bad book because it isn't, there was nothing particularly wrong with the narration but I did find that I kept "tuning out" when so listened to it. There is a lot of danger, intrigue but very little suspense and I couldn't bring myself to care too much about the characters. It wasn't that they weren't each individuals but they were all of a type and rather formulaic. Some bits of the story just don't seem credible Karen for instance is too selfish and oblivious to the reality of he situation to make her realistic or some of her actions likely. I was disappointed and hoped for me and as other reviewers have said elsewhere the title gives away too much of the plot.

Really good WW2 novel

Really enjoyed this, shorter than his big sagas but still very good. Great description and characters building to a satisfactory finish.

Brilliant!!

This is a fantastic story and it is very well told. Highly entertaining from start to finish. Very 'boy's own' adventure. One of my new favourites by KF : )

Enjoyable

Overall this kept me listening and was quite an exciting story. The reader performed it very well and I think made it more enjoyable than had I read it myself. Sometimes Ken Follett has a tendency to use slightly clunky prose and over-explain some things but all in all I found this a good listen. One slight problem was there seemed to be some sound glitches in the early part of chapter 31 so I missed some lines but whilst this was annoying it didn't impact much on the story overall.

A Tense WW11 Triller

Another exciting novel by Ken Follett combining bravery, treachery, love and loyalty to create a story to keep the reader/listener gripped to the end. Nigel Carrington is a wonderful narrator, giving a sense of realism to all the characters.
