Summary

THEY THINK THEY KILLED A GIRL.
THEY ONLY MADE A MONSTER.

Annie Lane was murdered, but that won’t slow her down. The mountain her body was dumped on is legendary for raising the dead—so after waking up in the same frigid water that hides her corpse, Annie surges into her backwoods hometown hell-bent on revenge.

The problem is, Annie can’t remember who killed her … and the list of people who might have wanted to isn’t exactly short. There’s her toxic mom, who spends her rare sober moments ripping Annie a new one. There’s her boss at the diner, who’s always been a little too friendly. And there’s her cheating ex and his creepy bandmates, who are just shit-brained enough to think they could get away with it.

All she has to go on are tequila-fogged memories and a bloodstained leather jacket, but Annie won’t stop until she gets what she came for.

SOMEONE KNOWS THE TRUTH.
SOMEONE IS TO BLAME.
SOMEONE HAS TO PAY FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO ANNIE LANE.

Furious, fast-paced, and darkly funny, Here Lies a Vengeful Bitch is at once a propulsive mystery and an exhilarating love letter to anyone who’s ever been told to be a good girl—or else.

“A wholly original exploration of what it means to be a modern female, with a depth of rage that echoes into the afterlife.”—MINDY McGINNIS, Edgar Award–winning author of The Female of the Species

An Excellently-Written Original

The concept of rising from the grave to take revenge is something I've only heard in ancient myths and horror/slasher stories, so hearing it from the side of someone who can still be considered human is a fresh perspective that fits perfectly in the modern era.

The story does well to capture someone who has woken up with a little bit more than a bad hangover. It steers clear of the tiresome trope of 'total amnesia'. Annie has a rough idea of what happened, so she skips over the whole 'helpless victim' stage and sets out with purpose.

Justis Bolding is a great match for Annie Lane. I definitely feel the teen angst vibe in her delivery.

Everyone loves a murder mystery, and this is one that definitely kept me guessing. The list of suspects is filled with a bunch of shady characters who could have easily done the deed.

Only thing is, I was hoping for a little more 'vengeance'. Reading the title and blurb, I was geared up for a story about a young woman on the warpath, someone who asks questions later. Annie came across as a little too 'rational' for someone who'd just been murdered and fly-tipped. That's not necessarily bad, just perhaps a little misleading. Or maybe that's just my way of thinking.

Overall, this is an excellently-written original with believable characters. Fans of a supernatural murder mystery with a coming-of-age twist will love it.
