About this listen

On the frozen shores of Sweden, a freak lightning storm reveals the skeleton of a giant man, his bony fist gripped tight to the shaft of an ancient iron hammer. It's not every day that the remains of a Norse god and his war hammer appear on a beach, and the occult detective called Hellboy knows that whatever is coming next won't be pleasant.

Acclaimed horror writer Christopher Golden crafts this stunning and suspenseful prose addition to the Hellboy saga.

Significant improvement on The Lost Army in pretty much every respect. Story is better. Abe is here with Hellboy and the dialogue is, as a result, much snappier and funnier. Setting is far more interesting, Norse mythology gives Chris Golden a lot more to work with, and Europe provides numerous locales compared to the desert of the first novel. You can see why this novel is being given a comic book adaptation instead of The Lost Army.

Wayne Mitchell really hits his stride in the narration here, breathes a whole lot of life and humour into the main cast.
