About this listen

I use people. Not in a malicious way, but in the way an addict abuses their substance of choice. People are my vice - men specifically. I crave the emotional high they give me, with a unique and reckless disregard for my own well-being - eagerly floating into an unsustainable euphoria, knowing full well that after every high comes an equal, if not more powerful, plummet into a devastating abyss. But like every junkie, I crawl willingly back into the arms of my demons.

Oh, the price we pay to feel loved. We'd all sell our souls to the devil himself for that. Perhaps I have already.

They say that acknowledging that you have a problem is one of the first steps to recovery. Well, in that case, my name is Charleston Smith, and I have a f--king problem.

Depressing story. Protagonist is not very likeable. No clear ending. Toooooo much self analizing. I dont find it endearing that she is seeing 3 men at the same time. The men I also dont get. Like Maverick. Wtf? Passion, a little agression, then he gets her to pull herself together and thats it. He wants her, but like not enough to actively pursue her, or be there like ever other than these rare ocacions. I could be ranting for hours about my frustrations about this book. It is not an upbeat story, no satisfactory ending, and throughout I felt really frustrated, sometimes even teary. Do not choose this if you are looking for something light and happy.

I need therapy or at least a chat room after this

I was really annoyed at the ending which left me dissatisfied and the authors smug epilogue disrespectful to her readers

Really well written and narrated the characters were believable. The story is sad and difficult to navigate but it's worth the listen. Love is Hard loving yourself is harder.

Soul searching deep story.

What a disappointment at the end you said it's not who she picks but what she when through and what she worked out in the end but sorry but knowing who she picked to make her get to where she needed makes the story after it all !!!!so only 1 star 🌟

Sorry it's not worth it

Most depressing book I’ve listened to. Main character is selfish and self pitying. Can’t see what has attracted any of the men to her, God help the one she chose in the end. Well done to her therapist for managing to make a living out of her misery for 10 years.
Very good narrator, especially considering what she was working with.

Depressing

The narrator had a really grating tone. There's an edge of hysteria to it, which makes the whole thing sound completely over the top. Exhausting.

Couldn't finish
