Cilka was only sixteen-years-old when she was taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp, in 1942. The Commandant at Birkenau, Schwarzhuber, noticed her long beautiful hair, and forced her separation from the other women prisoners.
Cilka did what she had to in order to survive Auschwitz. And yet after Russian soldiers liberated Auschwitz in 1945, Cilka was charged as a collaborator and sentenced to serve a fifteen-year sentence for 'sleeping with the enemy'. Once again, she found herself on a brutal train journey, crammed into a carriage with many desperate women and children. This time, her destination was Siberia. She was by then only eighteen-years-old.
So began a new life of horror and brutality in a prison camp close to the Arctic Circle. But in this unimaginable darkness, this terror beyond terror, Cilka found endless resources within herself, her profound humanity and determination helping her to survive against all odds.

Brilliant
Both tattooist of auchwitz and Cilka’s story are the best books I have listened to.
Gripping stories that describe the life of people that had to survive such terrible horrors

Even Better?
I normally go for horrors or stories about crime but fancying a change I read the tattooist of auschwitz and enjoyed it very much so I downloaded Cilka’s journey thinking it would be just as good, I know some won’t agree but I found Cilka’s journey to be better and I would recommend the book to anyone
Also of note the reader wouldn’t need to read the tattooist of auschwitz before Cilka’s Journey

Heartbreaking and inspiring
Having loved the Tattooist of Auschwitz I was intrigued by Cilka and wanted to follow her story. Heather Morris has cleverly blended fact with a novelis's instincts to produce a compelling account of a remarkable woman.
If I had one (tiny) niggle with this audiobook, it would be that I would have preferred to have the Note from Heather Morris and the Afterword by Owen Matthews read in their own voices, rather than the narrator's.
Other than that, a powerful and ultimately inspiring story with real historical significance.

Remarkable story about a truly remarkable lady.
I loved the story and really appreciated all the extras at the end. I feel bad saying the only very tiny negative was a few language choices were modern and jarred slightly in the flow of the story. I only say this because it is so compelling and absorbing, I did not want to be brought to now when I was with Cilka. I would highly recommend this to anyone, pay respect to this brave young girl, as she was.

raw without being graphic. Very well written.
I couldn't put this down. Cilka demonstrates the human will to survive regardless of how bleak the outlook may be. As a reader, your heart breaks when hers does, you cry with her, you feel her relief and relish her comfort. a fantastic read/listen.

Light In so much darkness
This is a touching book full of sadness but of courage and strength of a child into an adult went through. A life she did not deserve after all the suffering she already had. One very brave women. I don’t know how you did it. This is a very good book and relates to the history of the awful treatment of those in nazi camps and then the suffering of being sent to prison after this. I couldn’t put it down just hoping for her that it would end.

moving, shocking and yet full of hope
I admire Cilkas fighting spirit and her unstoppable looking out for others first. I hope she found peace with her past and lived a happy life after surviving the horrors of her youth.

Best book ever
This very moving story is the best book I’ve listened to to date. I was sad it came to and end. Made me cry more than once. What an amazing woman Cilka was and such a strong woman too. What a life the poor young lady had been subjected to. Well worth a listen to top marks for this one.
