Summary

If he’s death, I crave oblivion.

Elowen is cursed: she kills with a brush of her fingertips. Her worst fear is hurting the boy she cares for—and her second-worst is the attention of the Raven Lord. Maelor is the lethally beautiful leader of the witch-hunters. And now, he seems like he knows her secrets.

When he arrests her, her only hope is to survive a series of brutal trials. Ninety-nine out of a hundred will die, and magic is strictly forbidden. Strangely, Maelor is immune to Elowen’s touch. The Raven Lord claims to want to help her. But as she spends more time with him, she discovers he has a dark secret of his own. Is he the reason bodies have been showing up around the kingdom, drained of blood?

The more Maelor wants Elowen, the more dangerous he becomes. In a world where trusting someone can get you killed, will this beautiful monster help her survive?

Hallowed Games is the first book in a new series of fantasy romance, morally-grey characters, and deadly trials: perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and Serpent and the Wings of Night.

Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is an absolutely amazing first book, The world building is great it’s a very caricature led story with some good twists. At the start my heart broke for the MFC Elowen losing her first love ( not that he wanted to leave her and did wait until she pushed him away) and being blackmailed by his new fiancé’s father. I don’t really want to give any spoilers but once Elowen meets the Raven lord Maelor things start to change but not all for the best at the beginning when she finds out that her touch doesn’t hurt Maelor she’s thrilled at actually being able to touch and Kiss someone for the first time in about 10 years but also very confused as to why her touch doesn’t kill him like it has every one else she has come into contact with?? We do get these answers in this book but again she loses her love interest hopefully not for long though as I’m sure he will be back in the next book. For now we’ll just have to put up with the sly and conniving Sion someone else that Elowen can actually touch without killing them?

Hallowed Games: Hallowed Games series, Book 1

This book was an absolute revelation. The wonderfully narrated audiobook just added to my reread and listen experience. The voice actor, once she stopped trying to do an English type of accent, was fantastic. Elowens' anger, fear, and especially her terror for Leo were so well conveyed!👏🎧

It is set in an indeterminate time and place, but it felt like the middle ages of England to me. Our mfc, Elowen, is a trained soldier and a$sassin for a baron. She cares for and loves a young orphan boy, Leo. He is her primary motivation for everything in her life now. In prior years, before the current ruling order of Archeron, she was a happy and very different person to who she is now. Something happened to her ten years ago, and she became a 'serpant touched'. That changed everything for her!🐍✨️

The world building for this book is exquisite. It swept me away into the countryside full of greenery, flowers, and forests. On into the darker side, where we have the terror of witch hunters, working for the head of the Archeron Order, the Pater! He's determined to cleanse the land of any serpent touched men, women, or children. He has two men that work directly under him, the head of his Lumanari Army, Sion, and the head of his priests and witch finders, the Raven Lord, Maelor. Elowen has met Maelor already, so when he turns up at the barons estate, her only thoughts are to protect Leo first and foremost, and then herself - if possible.🙏🏼

This is a dark, gritty, and often brutal read. It has such seductive, steamy scenes that it will make you crave more. Yet there is also such a will for life and justice flowing throughout it. Leo is a beacon of pure light and love for Elowen. Is rebellion finally brewing?🤞

I can barely wait to get my hands on more of this gripping new series. (I can’t help feeling Sion, the most morally grey/almost black character, is going to be someone we’ll all end up loving! I get such ‘touch her, and I’ll throw you down an endless pit’, vibes from him.😉🔥)

This is one of my TOP five books of the year (2023)!⭐️🎉
