Summary

Chosen as the Guardian of her Montana Shiftertown, wolf Shifter Rae Lyall is facing opposition - for no woman has ever been selected for this powerful position. Still adjusting to the new authority thrust upon her, Rae travels to train with Zander Moncrieff, a Shifter healer, tasked with teaching her about her new role and its responsibilities.

A polar bear Shifter, Zander wears no collar and follows no rules but his own. Rae finds him arrogant and demanding, yet compelling and intriguing. Zander has no wish to mate, but the sassy Guardian is drawing him out of his shell, stirring feelings long suppressed. And when a new threat looms over Rae's home, she and Zander must race to the rescue, forced closer to danger and to each other.

Little disappointed

Finally get a strong character who is African American and former military and he turns out to be a sniveling wimp. All of the other characters are strong. The way the storyline is written he will not be included in future storylines. Im finding that these authors will not include black characters unless they make them subservient or lacking. Im not saying the authors have to write a black book with black quotes, but please write them in as strong and dependable as any other species. This shows the mentality of white authors who is afraid of the black culture and subdue them (psychologically, negatively, or harshly) in the paranormal world just like main media society. I really love the writings of Jennifer Ashley like most readers of my race so if I can advise anything to J.A. is write in the black characters as any other characters in your books not the cliche of no daddy at home, prison past, drug addicted family members, foul mouthed, slutty, never a virgin, or recovering addict. That is only 5 percent of the black population as in any culture. But write about the human part.
In saying that I will say that the shifters restrictions from the government does seem like the restrictions black people have faced in past and some in the present. The shifters ability to still function under the strict guidelines is similar to the plight of our people, that is why I related to the storyline so profoundly. That's why I was disappointed because I just knew we were going to finally have a heroic black character who will not be a side supporting character who dies and give his life up so the thriving white person can live.
I know it's sort of harsh sounding but really it is an insight from one of the millions of black readers like me who want to see themselves in the storyline as positive as the other ones.
Even the New Orleans Character could have been black. It's not hard to say chocolate brown smooth skin, or long curly, or dreaded, or braided hair, and then stick to the storyline as planned.

Goddess touched...

I loooved this story! It’s a bit different than the others and I think that’s what added an extra bit of whoa to the story.

Rae, a lupine guardian. The only female guardian, and Zander, a Goddess touched polar bear healer are an odd couple for many reasons. The Goddess has a sense of humor it seems, or she’s just a wee bit crazy herself.

The battles they have to over come, like being “captured” by a human bounty hunter determined to turn them in sets them off on a crazy train ride that has them going a hundred miles an hour to not only save their bacon but others now in their care. It’s not everyday a female guardian comes into the fold, nor is it everyday that the guardian finds a mate in the last person she would have expected.

I hope to see more of these two in the future!

Order of books

Great story. But it’s so irritating that the books aren’t listed in order when you chose a title to read

I absolutely loved the characters in this one. She does such a good job not only on developing the characters it also keeping them connected from book to book. I loved Ra and Zander, so fun and strong together.

This series is terrific!

I have enjoyed listening to this. The story follows through the series and the characters are very well portrayed. The narrator is very good, however, I would like to hear a males voice. I believe it would round out a very good listen.
