Summary

Skinny, quiet hipster Dylan Warner was the kind of guy other men barely glanced at until an evening's indiscretion with a handsome stranger turned him into a werewolf. Now, despite a slightly hairy handicap, he just wants to live an ordinary - if lonely - life as an architect. He tries to keep his wild impulses in check, but after one too many close calls, Dylan gives up his urban life and moves to the country, where he will be less likely to harm someone else. His new home is a dilapidated but promising house that comes with a former Christmas tree farm and a solitary neighbor: sexy, rustic Chris Nock.

Dylan hires Chris to help him renovate the farmhouse and quickly discovers his assumptions about his neighbor are inaccurate - and that he'd very much like Chris to become a permanent fixture in his life as well as his home. Between proving himself to his boss, coping with the seductive lure of his dangerous ex-lover, and his limited romantic experience, Dylan finds it hard enough to express himself. How can he bring up his monthly urge to howl at the moon?

Fabulous!

Loved everything about this story - characters, plot, chemistry, writing style - and Nick J Russo is one of my favourite narrators. Great job all round.

I love a well written werewolf story

If you could sum up Good Bones in three words, what would they be?

Interesting and engaging

What about Nick J. Russo’s performance did you like?

Nick j Russo is one of my favourite narrators and I came to this story while searching for his other works. He has a great story telling voice and gives the characters he's voicing very clear and differing tones to their voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have done, but I generally listen to audio books on my commute to and from work, so I listened to this story over the course of a week. That said, I found myself sitting in the car park at work listening until the end of a chapter.

Any additional comments?

It was a great story and had two main characters that I grew to love. I have seen on Amazon that there are other books in this series available, I hope they come out in audio book form and that the author uses Nick to narrate again. I hate it when authors use different narrators for continuing books, because when you hear characters you've gotten to know using different voices it spoils the continuity and then overall enjoyment of the book.

New shifter series great narration

Dylan is an architect in Portland, OR who lives for his work and longs for romance, but hasn’t found it. One night he hooks up with an enigmatic man, Andy, who ends up being an evil werewolf that attacks Dylan, making Dylan a werewolf as well. Now, once a month, Dylan has to lock himself down or end up on the streets of Portland, killing innocents.

Chris is a country bumpkin with a past. He’s “poor white trash” and lives basically on a shoe string budget doing various handyman type jobs. When Dylan moves in next door he’s sure that he’s being judged by the uppity hipster but can’t refuse the extra cash offered to help with renovating Dylan’s new cabin.

Eventually both men succumb to their attraction for the other but both are hiding some deep, dark secrets. The question is, is what they have strong enough to survive those secrets coming to light?

**

This is a shifter story more like the werewolf stories of old. Dylan isn’t part wolf, he only becomes the “monster” once a month and he hates it. Chris’ feelings of inadequacy and his shame stemming from his past keep him from allowing Dylan in. Dylan won’t let anyone close for fear he might hurt them.

Kim Fielding is an amazing writer and this book is no exception. She’s developed a plausible world wherein things do go bump in the night. She found a way to keep Dylan’s experience a tragedy, yet with a silver lining.

(I loved all the Portland references! Yay Stumptown! I totally cried laughing at the women’s house – SO PORTLAND – it needs to be green, and exotic, but not too exotic and make a statement, but not too much of a statement and you’ll know it’s right because it will FEEL right… so spot on!)

Audio:

Nick J Russo narrates this and his voice is DIVINE. He does a lovely growly Dylan and a perfectly “hick” Chris. Together they have some serious chemistry. Nick always does an excellent job with his “acting” and I really loved the final scene where Dylan and Chris admit their feelings to one another. Can’t wait for book 2 on audio!

I really enjoyed the story and think that listening to this is absolutely the best way to enjoy this.

entertaining

Any additional comments?

This was an audio that had twist and turns all over the place.

Dylan has an issue, the one time he was noticed at a bar was of course by a werewolf that couldn’t control his urges and bit him. Now he lives with this anvil around his neck every full moon. Deciding enough, he finds a run down farm house that needs restoring but since that’s his field, it’s perfect. The only issue is he’s neighbor.

Chris is about the most ungay stereotype there is. Which is awesome, he’s brass, gets drunk on cheap beer, fixes up anything with an engine, pee’s off the back porch, brilliant.

So when they get together and start the reno, and things heat up between them Dylan is confused on one, is Chris gay and two why would this Handsome man want him.

As the story unfolds and we get a better understanding on what makes each of these two tick we can see how perfect they are together. The moods that Chris has, is rooted in the insecurities. And the big secret that Dylan has is ruling and running his life.

But of course these two get these act together, and we get our HEA in the end.

The narrator, did a wonderful job with all of these characters.

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review by Chrystal many reviewers

Good Paranormal Romance

This was a fun story with a bit of paranormal thrown in with it. I really liked the way we got to see the relationship being built as the two men worked on the house renovations and how they supported each other in various ways as they grew closer and closer.

Then the full moon rolls around and we are exposed to why Dylan wanted to get away from city life in the first place... and why he loves living in the woods as well..... until his nasty ex enters the picture and all Dylan's secrets are exposed.

I liked the suspense in wondering how/when the secret would come out and wondering how it would be handled.

A very well written book.

Nick Russo did an great job narrating the book as well. I've listened to numerous projects of his now and he has a great voice for narrating and bringing the story to life with a good tempo and reading speed.

I received a free copy of this book to read for Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review.

Nick Russo's voice is WAY TOO perfect

I loved this book and its story. Nick Russo pulled off the accent differences of Chris and Dylan superbly; he made Chris feel SO real and gave the character the presentation the depth of his personality deserved. Unfortunately the sequel uses a new narrator and I've listened to the sample reading. There's no way the depth of Chris will continue to lackadaisically shine like in the first book.

Personally I won't be giving #2 a try. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it, unless you think adding a haunted house angle is just too trite.

great bones

Andy irked me to no end! He just kept pushing and pushing- karna- ta da!! Dylan and Chris were a mass of angsty heat! Geeze! I empathized with Dylan's inner struggles. Dylan and Chris were suvh an odd couple, but they paired up nicely . One problem/danger dealt with, but can they make it for the long haul?? Looking forward to more. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job.

Delightful

A man looking for refuge found more than he’s looking for in this quiet but sweep love story. Nick J Russo is delightful as always and his voices for each character is distinct and memorable. Loved it.
