About this listen
In his reflections on God, Jesus, suffering, and liberation, James H. Cone relates the gospel message to the experience of the Black community. But a wider theme of the book is the role that social and historical context plays in framing the questions we address to God as well as the mode of the answers provided.

Every christian should read this book
As a white evangelical this book was not an easy listen. That said, it was compelling, cut me to the bone at every turn and I think it may have irrevocably changed my perspective on power, church and when it is right to let injustice go unchallenged as a follower of Jesus (the answer is never). The heritage of western white theology is one that needs intense interrogation and Cone is an indispensable dialogue partner if we are to truly say that we follow the God and father of our lord Jesus Christ. the one anointed to bring freedom to prisoners, sight to the blind and to set the oppressed free.
