Summary

Haughty, social climber Juno, her ditzy, style-free sister Athena, and their cousins, "It" girl Diana and wannabe actress Venus, are accustomed to living the high life, thanks to a trust fund set up by their super-rich, reclusive Uncle Clem.

But when Uncle Clem summons his nieces to his mansion in the Seychelles to announce his engagement to Bai-Ling, a woman young enough to be their baby sister, the four girls instantly know trouble's afoot...

Can they stop the wedding? What happens when four pampered princesses have to cope without their trust fund? Who will learn to stand on her own two feet...and who will fall?

A Gem

I've just finished listening to this audiobook and found it a real treasure. I have previously listened to The Movie by Bagshawe and found it enjoyable if not a little predictable but this was better. The main characters of Juno, Athena, Diana and Venus are those 'it' girls that we love to hate. They have everything most of us have ever dreamed of, top designer wardrobes and glamourous lifestyles included, all funded by rich Uncle Clem. When the girls are summond to his palatial Seychelles mansion the bottom drops out of their world as Uncle Clem's new gold digging fiance Bai-Ling is introduced to them, and makes it clear that thrir days of living off him are over. The plot has many twists and turns as we learn about the girls and realise there is more to them than money alone. They each have talent and fears and romantic wants that upto now have been smothered by living up to what is expected of them by high class society and their Uncle. The narration was superb I especially liked Diana who reminded me of Honor Blackman and a fine job was also made of Jack with a wonderful Scottish drawl. It was also nice to get a guest appearance of a character from The Movie. True escapism very enjoyable listen.

Good story dodgy recording

Good Louise Bagshawe novel however the recording is not the best!! Several times it repeats sentences, once the narrator pauses and says “sorry” and once there is some production notes (says end of side 15)
Bit annoying and not what I would expect when paying for an audible book.
