Story
Felix Love has never been in love - and, yes, he's painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it's like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What's worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he's one marginalisation too many - Black, queer and transgender - to ever get his own happily-ever-after. When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages, Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn't count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi-love triangle.

Story
When I left for college, I put 1,000 miles between my future and my past. I'd made a choice - I was going to cross back to the other side, to live with the living. I just didn't know how. And then I met Nate Preeter. An All-American baseball player, Nate wasn't supposed to notice a ghost-of-a-girl like me. But he did. He shouldn't want to know my name. But he did. And when he learned my secret and saw the scars it left behind, he was supposed to run. But he didn't.

Story
Meet Arthur and Ben. Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a show-stopping romance when you least expect it. Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things. But when the boys have a chance meeting at the post office, they leave wondering what exactly the universe does have in store for them.

Story
Matt Gratton and his two best friends, Sean and Coop, always set themselves a summer-time goal. This year’s? To see a real-live naked girl for the first time. As far as Matt is concerned, they’d have better luck finding the lost city of Atlantis. But seeing a girl in the buff starts to seem like child’s play compared to the other summertime goal Matt sets for himself: to swim the 100-yard butterfly (the hardest stroke known to God or man) in order to impress Kelly West, the hot new girl. So what if he can’t manage a single lap, let alone four?

Summary
Lambda Literary Award Winner!
“Pen is an inspiration to anyone who’s struggled to be understood, and a vital addition to the growing world of genderqueer protagonists.” (New York Times Book Review)
All Pen wants is to be the kind of girl she's always been. So why does everyone have a problem with it?
They think the way she looks and acts means she's trying to be a boy - that she should quit trying to be something she's not. If she dresses like a girl and does what her folks want, it will show respect. If she takes orders and does what her friend, Colby, wants, it will show her loyalty.
But respect and loyalty, Pen discovers, are empty words. Old-world parents, disintegrating friendships, and strong feelings for other girls drive Pen to see the truth - that in order to be who she truly wants to be, she'll have to man up.
M. E. Girard’s Girl Mans Up is perfect for fans of Meredith Russo, Becky Albertalli, Alex Sanchez, and Jaye Robin Brown!

I loved everything about it
I loved everything about this book. It's such an honest look at teenage life with the added bonus of the lead character being a butch lesbian.
It covers really serious topics and also the struggles that can come with identifying 'differently.'
Pen's growth through the book is a joy to watch, the flirting and relationship sections are just perfect, the evolution of her friendships and the adjustment of her moral compass are so interesting.
I cannot praise this book highly enough & I wish it had been released when I was a teenager.

I loved this book
If you could sum up Girl Mans Up in three words, what would they be?
Strong Girl Survives
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I loved this book. This is not a book about a transgender girl. This is a story of a queer girl, who doesn't fit the mold of a typical girl. She doesn't want to necessarily be a girl or a boy. She just wants to be herself and have others accept her as herself. Of course, this doesn't happen. Pen instead loses friends, gains new ones, gets bullied and beat. However, as her trials continue, she grows into herself to become the woman she wants to be.
I enjoyed this book so much for the plot. The author did not use any of the typical memes for gender related books. Her plot was unique and interesting. I never knew where the plot was going; although, it remained realistic to high school life. This book I will listen to again. Pen rocks!
