About this listen
What is the best way for the average person to authentically experience the world's greatest mountain range - the Himalayas? Fortunately, there is now a good answer. The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is the most popular footpath in Asia. Its genius lies in its design. Trekkers wind their way around and along some of the world's greatest peaks, ultimately getting near 18,000 feet, without ever having to do any 'technical climbing'. This Circuit is widely considered one of the world's great treks, and mortals from all around the world are coming to Nepal for the unique chance to 'get high'. Bill Walker ('Skywalker') struggled his way through the Annapurna Circuit in 2012. He has written this entertaining tale of his journey in this land of Sherpas, cold, altitude, and rushing water.

decent book but.......
A decent book , but the narrator's Texan drawl got on my nerves. I'm sure with a different narrator I'd of marked the book higher. Bill allowed himself to be pushed around by his suspect porter/guide ,and his description of the warts and all aspects of his journey was very interesting and informative.

Very inspiring
Thought the story was great and made that much more enjoyable being narrated by bill himself. I feel that bill hasn’t sugarcoated any of the events and gives the reader/listener a real good feel for what it would be like to undertake the trek yourself.

fantastic book and full of amazingly helpful info.
loved it! was simply the best book I had the pleasure of reading to date. I'm doing the ebc treck next year and just used up all the ebc books so gave this one a go, now bill has aspired me to go on and do the abc also. I love the depth of detail he went in to to tell his experience of the circuit. I felt like I was right there with him. I have taken so much from it, Inspiration and tips and info regarding the treak. I think you should do the abc Bill next......

Brought back many memories
I enjoyed this book for reviving fond memories of trekking the area over 30 years ago. Interesting account but is let down by mispronunciation of Himalayas and the Forest Gump accent.

Narrator catching a train?
Although the story appears quite interesting and written with self-deprecating humour, I can't be sure as the narrator reads at a speed that makes it hard to keep up.

To experience
Although short Getting High is interesting & makes you wonder what it would be like to do a trek like this.

Trekking the Bill Walker way
Having also done the Annapurna circuit + ABC (2003) it was great to hear someone else's perspective of the trek was broadly the same. The imagery of the people and places resonated well with me. Im afraid Bill did come across as a little unprepared and consequently made some poor choices like knowledge of the trail, porterage provisions, his inability to get/stay warm and his increasing desire to turn back/give up. These made me gnash my teeth a little. As he stated though this book isn't a guide book, just a recount of one mans experiences. I struggled with his pronunciation of Himilaya too! Overall it was worth the listen

Makes me appreciate the outdoors
Some narratives evoke memories, some narratives inspure future pursuits. This narrative does both. 5 stars. As a tall person, I particularly appreciate the charm of the author.
