About this listen

Georgette Fortune has loved the same man for over two years now, but he does not even know she exists.

When the handsome Marquis of Onslow appears at a house party in her home, the crumbling Castle Fortune, he does not recognise her at all.

With six unmarried daughters to provide for, and in the hope of marriage settlements, Baron Fortune has invited guests to a home ill prepared for it. He hopes that young Lord Paxton, who has shown interest in his daughter Jocasta will finally offer for her. And while he is at it, he will introduce his other daughters to the company as well. It falls to Georgette to make all the arrangements, but she was not expecting to deal with her unrequited love, Onslow.

Georgette is largely ignored by her family, treated almost as a poor relation, but will Onlsow finally see her?

To add to her torture, the beautiful Miss Julia White has appeared, the woman Georgette was sure Onlsow loved. Another guest is Onslow's friend, Sir Justin Faulkes, who had once offered for Georgette himself and still shows his admiration.

With a full house of guests to see to, plus her wayward sisters to keep in line, Georgette will be busy. But as she and Onslow become closer, is this a torture or a delight?

My favourite Alicia Cameron book

Loved the story, the characters, the performances. Thoroughly recommend. Very witty with several laugh-out loud moments.

Delicious

Superbly narrated, thoroughly enjoyable. A house party with interesting. diverse characters culminates in love for some and disappointments for others. I was sorry when it ended.

Fabulous Work!

This story is like the dated British Romantic dramas that I love watching on TV.

It was a lovely story where strongly built characters interacted in a well rounded plot. It was creatively done.

The accuracy of the customs and traditions pertaining to the era was impressive.

I found it witty, and the suspense of who Georgette would end up with was thrilling.

The writing was mature and graceful, and I applaud the author for the awesome delivery of her story.

The narrator was very versatile and was perfect in her interpretation of each character, and the expression of their words and thoughts .

I thoroughly loved and enjoyed listening to this novel. The author and narrator are certainly a duo to look out for.

I highly recommend, especially for those who love this genre.

charming HOUSE-PARTY with consequences....

this story leads you to the countryside, a HOUSE-PARTY , as it used to take place ... and still does, just not for the length of time (2 weeks here) and all the preparations and worries to amuse ones guests ...

the Heroin is charming and the story light hearted ... most enjoyable ...

not sure if I shall follow up on the other sisters - but enjoyed this first one :-)

character driven

I was very much engaged by the story of several people who all were well developed and free of drama, miscommunication or 21st century manierisms. I enjoyed the lack of sexual tension, brooding and struggle with passion.
The narration was acceptable. I could not tell all voices apart and the emotional depth was regularly lacking. The sound quality could be better but was acceptable after the story grasped my attention.
