Summary

A New York Times bestseller! In the first of three official tie-in novels to the hugely successful videogame from Microsoft and Epic Games, the last human survivors of a vicious alien attack fight a pivotal battle for the fate of mankind.

As kids, the three of them were inseparable; as soldiers, they would be torn apart. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago fought alongside Dom’s elder brother Carlos at Aspho Fields in the epic battle that changed the course of the Pendulum Wars. There’s a new war to fight now, a war for mankind’s very survival. But while the last human stronghold on Sera braces itself for another onslaught from the Locust Horde, ghosts come back to haunt Marcus and Dom. For Marcus—decorated war hero, convicted traitor—the return of an old comrade threatens to dredge up an agonizing secret he’s sworn to keep.

As the beleaguered Gears of the Coalition of Ordered Governments take a last stand to save mankind from extermination, the harrowing decisions made at Aspho Fields have to be relived and made again. Marcus and Dom can take anything the Locust Horde throws at them—but will their friendship survive the truth about Carlos Santiago?

flawed version.

The book and the performance are great but the audiobook would move positions if left for a day or two.

great entry to a great series

A superb book that has the ability ro not only make the characters feel real, but also put you in their shoes,
a brilliant story gritty, suspenseful and epic about events carved into the history of the gaming series

gears fans will love it, and those new to the series will be drawn into it and hooked

Hope you like guess who’s talking

The story is great, I read it myself multiple times years ago and after listening to other audiobooks of books I love I was excited to give this a shot. However the voice of Nan McNamara reading doesn’t fit the tone or pitch of the soldier’s voices in the book and there’s not much definition between characters, has a great voice for Anya or the Locus Queen however

What were you thinking.

After years of asking audible to put the Gears of War series of book on uk audible (weirdly it was available only on us), was excited to see they finally did it, excitement turned to slight disappointment when I realised it was Nan McNamara reading it and not the original David Colacci. Great story still worth a listen but not a patch on the original. Very little definition between characters which lets down the book and can distract from what is a very enjoyable book. If you can track down the originals I would listen to them.

Amazing

As damn near life long fan of the Gears series I can say without out a doubt that this book really humanizes the characters I’ve loved for so long. Just brilliant!
