Summary

Maria wants to be friends.

But Maria is dead.

Isn't she?

When Louise Williams receives a message from someone left long in the past, her heart nearly stops.

Maria Weston wants to be friends on Facebook.

Maria Weston has been missing for over 25 years. She was last seen the night of a school leavers' party, and the world believes her to be dead. Particularly Louise, who has lived her adult life with a terrible secret. As Maria's messages start to escalate, Louise forces herself to reconnect with the old friends she once tried so hard to impress. Trying to piece together exactly what happened that night, she soon discovers there's much she didn't know. The only certainty is that Maria Weston disappeared that night, never to be heard from again - until now....

"A read-it-in-one-sitting thriller.... Twisty and gripping but always relatable, Friend Request is the ultimate it-could-happen-to-you read." (Erin Kelly)

Hard to stop listening

I really enjoyed the book which was brilliantly read by Elaine Caxton. You really get to know the characters and the balance between flashbacks to school days and forward to the present day is perfectly timed. Great twist at the end!

Enjoyed, but ending a bit flat.

A well written book easy to follow and kept me guessing, good attention to detail as I live near where the story is partly based, it did tend to fall a bit flat near the end but overall a good listen.

Slow start but was a good read.

Enjoyed the performance. Felt frustrated the first quarter of the book as just wanted to know some of what happened. I felt it could have got to the climax a bit quicker, but enjoyed the story and it had some good twists.

Not the best but ok

Took a long time to get going. Not particularly well written but entertaining enough that I finished it.

Unfortunately this is the way of the modern world so nothing shocking was uncovered.

I will certainly use audible again though.

Good story but overlong

I thought this book was quite good. Not great but ok. The narration was good but the story ( although quite good) spent too much time dealing with over exaggerated events that happens 30 years ago. I fast forwarded through great chunks of it but never lost track, which showed me that much of the book was padding and unnecessary. Not sure I would listen to another book by the author. A bit light in content for my taste.

Not for younger listeners!

The author and narrator are both amazing at their jobs but please note that this book is not for younger listeners and could be found disturbing. It is so well written that I never struggled to keep on listening and the narrator reads with emotion, using different voices for each character. I only rated it so low because of the disturbing events described in here.

Very good whodunnit

If you can see past the constant use of the phrase “ya know?” and the whining voice used for the flashback sections of the book it’s actually a pretty good listen. The main character is likeable and you change your mind about the guilty party a good few times. Easy to listen to and I would recommend it.

Riveting

Wow what a story. Centering on events that happened over 25 years ago and how they affect Louise and her old school friends now. Switching between 1989 and 2016, threads are weaved together, gradually revealing more and more until the truth finally comes out.
