Summary

Fans of the Divergent series by number-one New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth will be thrilled by Four: A Divergent Collection, a companion volume that includes four pre-Divergent stories told from Tobias Eaton's point of view. Divergent - a major motion picture in 2014.

Listeners first encountered Tobias Eaton as "Four" in Divergent. His voice is an integral part of Allegiant. Listeners will find more of this charismatic character's backstory told from his own perspective in Four: A Divergent Collection. When heard together, these long narrative pieces illuminate the defining moments in Tobias Eaton's life.

The first three pieces in this volume - "The Transfer", "The Initiate", and "The Son" - follow Tobias' transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless, his Dauntless initiation, and the first clues that a foul plan is brewing in the leadership of two factions. The fourth story, "The Traitor", runs parallel with the events of Divergent, giving listeners a glimpse into the decisions of loyalty - and love - that Tobias makes in the weeks after he meets Tris Prior. Exclusive scenes included!

Four

What a brilliant book. With complex plots and subplots, the characters! I really enjoyed this book. Listening to Aaron telling the tale added more life to this book. Not that it needed it. Read it, enjoy!

The story was wrong

Overall the story was amazing but the audio seemed to be in the wrong parts. For example tris entered dauntless at the end of the story but is mentioned through out the rest of the story.

Emotional and Interesting

The book was a great listen, intriguing throughout! I loved the storyline from Four's perspective as you don't see that much in the films and other books :)

Great addition to the series

Really enjoyed this.. The look into Four's character progression and how he thinks was a great addition to the trilogy. For fans of the Divergent books you will enjot it, it is well read and gives a look at what was going on before Tris.

Fantastic! addition to the series

Would you consider the audio edition of Four: A Divergent Collection to be better than the print version?

This audio version of four is brilliant, it takes a little getting used to hearing the full book from fours perspective but would definitely recommend it. If you loved the Divergent collection and was sad when it ended this extra edition just gives you that little bit more.

A different point of view

Insightful, but when running it straight after Divergent as I did the similarities can at first feel like an error in writing, like the author can only describe the same things we encounter with both characters one way, even though it's through the eyes of Tobias instead of Tris.
It's only when you press further in and the story being told opens up do you feel you are getting a fuller picture of the events of the first book, and prior to it.

Excellent voice performance, and the way he relates his life with his abusive father. You can feel the conflict within him and how it has affected his trust issues.

All in all an excellent addition to the audible library.

Blown away!

This is a collection of short stories which fill in the backstory of Four, and tell some of the events from the Divergent series from his point of view.
What makes this so good, however, is the performance by Aaron Stanford, who manages to make every character come alive.

Enjoyed the story from Four’s perspective

I’ll just come out and say it: Four is a strong, conflicted character but the narrator doesn’t convey that. The narration feels weak, something Four isn’t. He’s overcome childhood abuse, escaped his father, fought his way through initiation and has grown into a force to be reckoned with. He’s a protector but the narrator isn’t able to bring that to the fore.

The storyline is fabulous and fills in the blanks from the first Divergent book. It’s just a shame that Four’s strength and brave nature isn’t conveyed by the narration.
