About this listen

Thrown back to the year 1897, Victoria Ashton is mistaken for, and forced to impersonate, the spiteful, unfaithful Countess of Guildford, who's been missing for three weeks. Despite Victoria's attempts to convince the earl she's not his wife, her double's infidelity and lies make it difficult, especially when Victoria falls in love with a man who loathes her.

Nicholas Thornhill, Earl of Guildford, is plagued with rumors he murdered his missing wife. When she unexpectedly reappears, he scoffs at her latest in a long string of lies. But the changes in Victoria make him alter his opinion as he forges a bond with her that crosses the boundaries of time.

Forever inside my head

I cannot describe how much I ADORE THIS AUDIOBOOK!!! It's an actual masterpiece from Monica Burns, its like she has gone inside my head and written the most perfect and beautiful story for me. I instantly fell in love with Nicholas and Victoria's story and these two live forever in my head all the time. I am ruined by their love story.

It just has everything, a gorgeous sweeping late Victorian historical romance with time slip, fated soulmates through time vibes energy along with a foreboding mystery weaving itself through the narrative. I just got instantly caught up in the atmosphere and the story and it was like I got caught up and transported back to 1897 along with Victoria. This is a beautiful mixture of historical romance meets Somewhere in Time meets Outlander with some hints of Rebecca thrown in. AAAAHHHH I just can't even deal with how much I loved it.

And to just add the final layer of perfection with this book? The duet (that's right delicious duet narration rare in this sub-genre) narrator pairing of Stephanie Nemeth-Parker and Zachary Johnson!!! They brought me to tears with just how perfect they are and I want to beg Monica Burns, them and the entire universe to get these two back together to complete the rest of the series. Please, please, please - I need the rest of the series!!!!

Stephanie Nemeth-Parker is just delightful as Victoria, our modern day American who slips back to 1897 England and finds herself being mistaken for the missing Countess of Guildford, oh and inheriting a beautifully flawless English accent and switching back and forth to her own accent in her head. Stephanie is just incredible playing the warm, graceful but forceful Victoria as she struggles to navigate with her new reality and her emerging feelings for the handsome and brooding Lord Nicholas Thornhill.

Zachary Johnson's bold and forceful voice, paired also with another flawless English accent and a perfect dramatic and dynamic performance makes him divine to listen to. He can be at once domineering and harsh and then soft and so damn swoony.

Seriously, this pairing is just an undiscovered gem who are amazing together and I just need them more!!!

Awesome Narration!

Story: 3.5 Stars
Narration: 5 Stars
Overall: 4.25 Stars

I've been fond of time-travel romances ever since I read Kiss of the Highlander and The Dark Highlander by Karen Marie Moning and Forever Mine was pretty much on par with those until we got to the ending.

I really liked Victoria, she was feisty! I really liked Nicholas, too, at least the past impersonation of him. See, here's the thing, Present Nicholas has been obsessed with the portrait of a woman all his life, when he meets Victoria in his gallery he can barely believe she looks so much like this woman and is captivated on the spot, but then an explosion happens and Victoria finds herself in the past impersonating the Countess of Guildford (who she is pretty sure is dead and was a dreadful wife for Nicholas) and meets past Nicholas. What follows is a fantastic love story as Nicholas falls for Victoria, even if he doesn't really believe she isn't his real wife or that she comes from the future.

My problem with this book is mostly with the present parts and the ending, which made no sense to my romantic heart. Present Nicholas might have Past Nicholas memories, but he's not the same (at least not to me), so yeah, that really put a damper on my enjoyment.

The narration was top-notch, though. I hadn't listened to a book where the female narrator read all the female voices, and the male narrator did the male voices, and it worked amazingly well.

Even if there were some things that didn't work for me, the book is well-written, and the parts in the past and the superb narration more than made it worth the time I devoted to listening to this audiobook.
